Hey. So for a spinoff from Any Good Things. The house in getting has a bar. Or will shortly. And I get to stock a bar. It's been a while since I switched to smoking instead. Once we move I have to quit smoking so I can get a real job and drinking looks like a good alternative. I used to like it and I am a hell of a bartender.
So here's the game. What's good but won't break the bank. Mrs. Rookie likes vodka and some rum. I'm more a whiskey man. In all forms. We're always happy to learn about new brands or new drinks. But neither knows anything about tequila or gin.
So what are you guys drinking tonight? If I wasn't smoking it would be either Jameson at home or Jim at a bar.
-
Tap water, because Vancouver's is among the best in the world and I'm enough of a jackass sober.
(If I'm not drinking that, I'm drinking chamomile tea.)
-
Prolly gonna whip out some Kraken black spiced rum in a bit...maybe polish off that sampler of Gentleman Jack.
-
Jameson's Gold or Jameson's the signature is pretty fucking special if you want a good whiskey. They're reasonably exxy but not crazy in the scotch stakes which can get fucking crazy. Tanqueray and Bombay Sapphire Gin is pretty good to -Gin/Tonic and lime/grapefruit.
Tonight I won't be drinking though but probably will by Friday.
-
Disaronno, Fireball, Sailor Jerry, Huradura
-
Also it is hard to go past a caucasian. Get Tia Maria though instead of kahlua
-
I found out I like gin and tonic.

Gin and Tonic is one of those surprisingly good drinks. Surprising because both Gin and Tonic by themselves are pretty fucking rough. But together they are brilliant especially when the weather is hot as Beelzebub's nipples. You have it with lime, lemon or grapefruit? Or have you gone hard out the gate and sprung for Hendricks and had it with cucumber?
Gin and Juice is good too:

I had lime. It was at a wedding so the selection was limited to Bombay Sapphire. But I've heard great things about Hendricks and can't wait to try it.
-
Bombay Sapphire is pretty fucking good. Lime is also better than lemon. And go for ruby red grapefruit when you feel like something different.
-
Bombay Sapphire would be a great stripper name as well.

Happy St. Liquor's Day, everyone!
-
Somewhat wasted, excuse anything I say from about 10pm EST.
-
I had some very excellent Redbreast whiskey.
-
Jameson is a good whiskey. It is not very burny or of shitty taste. It receives my coveted seal of whiskey approval. I have yet to try the absinthe I got, so no opinions on that, yet.

Beer. Feldschlösschen.
-
Normally when I'm up late posting it's with tea, but on this occasion it is milk.

Likely some form of rum, tonight. Got one last ABC store to check to see if it has the other style of Appleton, which I have heard is not only very easy drinking, but also tastes of banana.
-
Didn't find the other kind of Appleton, but I did get some samplers that, other than one, I quite liked. Crown Royal Vanilla whiskey, which was very smooth and enjoyable, with just a bit of vanilla to make the smooth booze go down even easier. Wild Turkey American Honey whiskey, on Ironbite's suggestion, which was quite sweet and extremely enjoyable. Johnny Walker Red Label scotch, which tasted burnt and nearly made me gag. And, lastly, UV Cherry vodka, which both smelled and tasted of a quality cherry soda with just a bit of bite to it.
