Someone shares a promo video of a pistol holster onto the FB group for Shadowrun. Two things happen. A debate over whether or not carrying a pistol with an empty chamber is "fucking stupid" or a perfectly viable way to make your gun safer even if it does add an extra step to making your gun ready. ...And the other thing is horny geeks talking about how hot the lady in the video is and wishing that she had been dressed like Lara Croft.

...Come on guys, if you are that desperate to see hot chicks go watch porn.

I'm going to pointlessly fuel that debate by arguing that if you were that fucking worried about needing to fire off a shot ASAP, where every millisecond counts and the split second it takes to pull the slide back means the difference between life and death, then you wouldn't be walking around with it holstered in the first place.

Which reminds me... All that "I must carry a gun at all times to protect myself and my family" thingy has few more problems. a) Most people will sleep at least sometimes. b) Most people will sometimes leave their apartment to go to work or school or something. You are not going to be there AND awake AND 100% on guard 24/7.

(I for one would move somewhere else, if not for myself then for my family, if life was so dangerous in Finland.)

Actually that's quite a good point.  If all the pro-gun people in the US and elsewhere argue they need guns for protection then perhaps they should move to somewhere less dangerous.  I know moving elsewhere is a big deal but to me it seems a more realistic and practical solution than just buying a gun and thinking you can Rambo your way out of a situation if the shit ever hits the fan.

Besides, you only need a gun to protect yourself if it's easy enough in the first place for people to get hold of a gun.  Unless you face the threat of bear attacks on a daily basis or something.  You could argue you could still need a gun to protect yourself from knife attacks or whatever (but if knife attacks are your worry it's probably because guns are hard to come by where you live, meaning you wouldn't be able to get a gun yourself either) but in many places responding to non-gun attack by shooting the person in the face would run the risk of you going to prison for murder, as it would be seen as using more force than necessary.  Results would vary depending on your lawyer of course but good luck being the protector of your property and family whilst you're locked in a prison cell.

I feel I've derailed the thread a bit so to get back on track:

I'm annoyed by the way I can't seem to stop looking at pictures of food whenever I'm trying to loose weight.  Stupid brain, why do you have to always make my life harder for me?

I get where you're coming from here, but it misses a very important point. Moving IS a big deal, and not just emotionally or difficult to do, but financially as well. Speaking purely on a monetary basis, buying a gun and all the related, needed equipment and licenses and training (probably under 2000 dollars) is a hell of a lot less expensive, and therefore more practical from a financial standpoint, than picking yourself and your family up, getting all of your stuff packed up, finding a new school, getting the moving trucks, getting a new job (for both of you, if your wife/husband works), finding a new house, getting settled into the new house... if you have a family, that cost is going to explode and explode big. Even if you sell your old house you're still looking at many, many thousands of dollars piling up.

I find it funny that the US has made defending the country voluntary, but has forcible jury duty.  Because fuck me if I want to pass this semester, I guess.  God damned barbarism.

It's the same in the UK.  Thing is forced jury service is the only way to get anyone to do it, whereas the military seems to have little trouble finding volunteers for some reason.  Personally I'd prefer to do neither, and I think the judicial system and the country are better off without my involvement quite frankly lol.

Meanwhile in Finland military service is kinda compulsory while jury duty is a profession.

There's no exception for being a student? Jeez.

Granted, I'll probably never have to serve on a jury, since all I'll say is that I have an M.Sc. in Math, and the Crown attorney will say, "Thanks but no thanks."

In civilized countries being a full time student is grounds for being excused from Jury Duty.

Yeah, Sleeps agrees that its bullshit, too.  Fuck's sake, I HAVE SHIT TO DO.  I'm not in danger of failing, but god damn it, I'd take fucking computational theory over jury duty.

Finland 100 years: Neo-Nazis are posted in front of voting places.

Not right where I am though, a buddy of mine saw them at a different city when she was going to vote.
