Murfreesboro Mosque now to be open for worship

Saw this on CNN today. A judge in Tennessee has put an end to the nonsense in the Tennessee Mosque, clearing the way for worship services to start in time for Ramadan. Expect lots of fundie wharrgarbl in the coming days.

Last I checked, freedom of (and from) religion applies to everybody, not just the ones we agree with. So I say good. Let them worship freely and within the laws of the land, just like everyone else.

I think it's less "cheering" and more "FINALLY!"

There's also the fact that lately it seems so rare for anything but Christian privilege to be enforced that the times when it isn't enforced are cheer-worthy.

Given that it seems to me that often Judges in America make decisions based on party lines, it is a good day when they actually do their jobs. Of course this is the perspective of an outsider though. However I base it on things like the supreme court where despite the obvious legality of any given case, certain judges will always decide on party issues.

They actually found a legal loop hole to hang this all up on, apparently the standard amount of time the town gave the public warning over the building permit for the mosque wasn't enough because this was of major concern to the community. But at least they didn't do it on the 'muslioms invadin' charges leveled against the place.

Unless there's something new they still need to get a final building inspection and an occupancy permit before they can actually use it though.

The fundies are trying in force so hard of late to crush anything they don't like that when something like this actually happens, people are glad to see it.

...The congregation (possibly not the right word for Islam) was already there. And worshiping weekly. This doesn't create more worshiping. Arguably, it will create less as I vaguely recall seeing a spokesperson for the Mosque saying that they had to hold multiple evening services due to the size of the congregation vs. the size of the building. What it does give us, in a very real way, is more freedom.
