The discussion won't take place until Spring 2013. Apparently gay weddings have already been happening, just without official recognition, and there's a gay pride parade in Hanoi on August 5th.

The article says it would be the first Asian country to legalize gay marriage, but it would also be the first communist country.

This will be used as evidence that "teh ghey" is an evil anti jesus commie plot to ruin 'merica.
History is full of maniacs, my friend, men and women of intelect, highly perceptive individuals, who's brilliant minds know neither restraint nor taboo. Such notions are the devils we must slay for the edification of pony-kind. Even if said edification means violating the rules of decency, society, and rightousness itself.

I'm reminded of Jon Stewart's commentary when South Africa legalized gay marriage in 2005.

"Just to reiterate, America is now less progressive than South Africa."
RIP Tony Benn (1925 - 2014)

"There is no moral difference between a stealth bomber and a suicide bomber. Both kill innocent people for political reasons."

“If we can find the money to kill people, we can find the money to help people.”

"I'm not frightened about death. I don't know why, but I just feel that at a certain moment your switch is switched off, and that's it. And you can't do anything about it."

Yes, Israel recognizes gay marriages performed in other countries.

A) They're not communist.

B) The Soviet Union legalised gay marriage until Stalin banned it in the 1930s.

C) I don't like calling things inevitable, but if the trend continues gay marriage will eventually be accepted (almost) everywhere.

A) They're not communist.

Their government is run by the Communist Party, therefore they are communist. Notwithstanding the inequality and market-oriented economic policies. Saying that makes them not communist is a no true scottsman fallacy.

Source? Wikipedia says homosexuality was accepted but doesn't mention gay marriage. It also says that "homosexuality" was still a criminal offense in some soviet republics as part of a broader movement against "uncivilized" practices when the local culture traditionally approved of homosexuality.

Perhaps this is Vietnam's way of thumbing their noses at Chinese domination.

Nonetheless, if Vietnam actually does legalize gay marriage, more power to them.

By that logic I can call myself a pacifist, and it'll never be wrong no matter how many wars I start.

What ever "communism" may have meant a long time ago society has come to a linguistic consensus that the word refers to the types of regimes like the Soviet Union, those ruled by a single Marxist-Leninist party.

"Communism" and "Social Democratic" used to be interchangeable terms, but after the Bolsheviks took dictatorial power and used the name "Communist" to refer to their party a split in Marxism occurred. The Social Democrats wanted to help institute changes through the Parliamentary system. The Communists believed a true socialist revolution could only happen if their vanguard party took power and steered society towards the desired changes.

Hypothetically I suppose you could have a semi-democratic Communist country if the Communist Party had open membership and at least somewhat competitive primaries, but it would be about as democratic as Iran, since the candidates you'd choose from would still be controlled by the party. However, historically Communist Parties have usually been difficult to get membership in in the countries where they have ruled.

Popular consensus isn't a good way to decide if something is what it is called. By your logic, evolution isn't what science has shown, but what people think it is.

Seriously, you just said, "Even though this country does almost everything the opposite way of Communism, it still is Communist because people say so".
