Memories of Lady T

The Iron Lady is dead but a lot of people are either supporting her or claiming she wasn't really that bad. How about all of us old enough to remember the 80s reminisce on some of her minor acts of evil.

Here are three of my favourites.

Treatment of Disabled War Veterans. Following the Falklands conflict there was a massive boost in nationalism as the country felt powerful again. We had a huge parade through London with the troops cheered by crowds of people. Lovely??? No. Disabled veterans - wheelchair bound and missing limbs - were banned from wearing their uniforms on the day and had to sit/stand at the back in civilian clothes. The Thatcher government thought injured soldiers would look bad. The injured vets complained and Thatcher lied and said it never happened. The problem is the parade was televised and the injured vets can be seen in their civvy clothes standing/sitting at the side. Nice.

Clause 28. A local government bill from 1986 that made it illegal to promote homosexuality as better than or equal to heterosexuality. The amendment stated that a local authority "shall not intentionally promote homosexuality or publish material with the intention of promoting homosexuality" or "promote the teaching in any maintained school of the acceptability of homosexuality as a pretended family relationship".
i.e. schools cannot say gays are 'normal', gay couples cannot adopt, gay parents are considered less able parents, gays are less than normal, etc...

Kymer Rouge. She supported the Kymer Rouge because.... not sure why. We supported them financially and even sent special forces to train them. All order by Thatcher. The Kymer Fucking Rouge. Watch the Killing Fields. British troops helped build Kymer Rouge training camps on her orders.
