Not that I had ever heard about the older ones either but this article came up and was interesting.

Not only do has the magazine tried to make more female heroes they have also shown men doing housework because they want to upset the old gender roles that are still in place in India (Yes, I'm talking about Indian as in, "Citizen of India", not "Native American.") and places like India this kind of diversity is needed even more than in Europe for example. (Not that female heroes would be a bad thing in European comics either but we've had them for so long that we take them as granted while in India female main character is more likely to be a damsel in distress than having any kind of active role in the plot.)

No matter what happens, no matter what my last words may end up being, I want everyone to claim that they were:
"If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine."
Aww, you guys rock. :)  I feel the love... and the pitchforks and torches.  Tingly!

Damn, she's got an awesome look!

Also, I believe this is the way to challenge entrenched traditionalists. Just ignore their whining and go forward. Let them die off like the outdated relics they are.
Excuse me, sir, do you have a minute to talk about your lord and savior, Hannibal Barca?

Yeah, if the pagans are so smart, why did Jesus invade Pagan-land on the back of a dragon and kill them all!

Ignoring whining in general is the way to go.  The worst thing you can do is give in.  Give them an inch, and they take a mile.
