Nice ride. Rain gear (or good ballistic nylon riding gear) would be good thing to get if it is going to be your only means of getting to work.

Being soggy at work all day sucks.

Seriously though, that's a beauty.  That sort of thing makes me wish I wasn't deathly afraid of road rash if I biffed it.  The fuel economy alone would be fantastic.
There is light and darkness in the world, to be sure.  However, there's no harm to be had in walking in the shade or shadows.

That is purdy!  Have fun.
I am an old man, and I've seen many problems, most of which never happened.

No down payment. It's all financed. And the payments are cheaper than I could have gotten on a car, because I could not get a car for the low price of a bike. ;) A car would have been a few thousand more, and worse fuel mileage. (And less fun!)

Since this is not my first bike (3rd actually), I already had most of the riding gear I needed. I had outgrown my lightweight jacket and pants and worn out my boots, so had to get new. I had a helmet, heavy riding gear, and a rain suit. Since I want my wife to ride with me sometimes, I also had to get her a helmet and jacket.

Ever watch the moto GP? Those guys just slide down the track for a while and then get back up un-rashed because they are wearing good gear. Granted, good gear like that is worth a grand or two.

It's the sudden slamming to a halt, tumbling ass-over-tea kettle, or a fellow road user using you as a speed bump that will fuck you up.  :o

If you have the suit, you're good to go... and there is always hanging out under a bridge when it is really bad (I generally define really bad as when my index finger windshield wiper is no longer effective or the puddles are too deep to use it). ;D

What sort of mileage is that thing supposed to get? My current bike, a 32 year old CB400T (I'm a glutton for punishment), is listed at 54mpg if I remember the period articles right. Being a lightweight, that number goes down rapidly the farther I wind out the throttle.

Congratulations on the job.

And the bike looks nice as well.

My rain suit got its first test yesterday. It wasn't raining very hard, but it was raining steadily, and I had a 45 minute ride back from the dealership. (The windshield and saddle bags are now installed.) Overall, it worked well. However, I realized that I do not have waterproof gloves, and I had the pants on in such a way that rain could run down into the top of my boots. (My socks were past "damp" and approaching "squishy" when I got home.) But the rest of me was fine (other than sweaty, since the rain suit obviously doesn't breathe.)

About 40 - 45, depending on which site I look on. I have only had to fill it up once, so haven't had a chance to run my own numbers on it. (And the one time I filled it, I didn't actually get it full since I could not tell where the liquid was in relation to the top of the dank. I got it between 3/4 and 1/2.)

I had a pair of  leather gloves that dyed my hands a lovely shade of blue the first time I wore them in the rain. ;D

that's a pretty sweet looking bike. I hate the noise they make though.

How much noise a bike makes depends on the exhaust pipes - some are designed to be louder than others. And there is a reason for the noise - it makes you noticeable. Because motorcycles are smaller than cars, some drivers just won't see them. But with loud pipes, you will be heard.

Several years ago, I got rear ended by someone who had not seen me. Because we were only going about 3 mph (1.6 kph), all it did was bend the frame in the back and throw me off. (I hyperextended my thumb on landing.) Since then, I've had a lot more understanding for people who get loud pipes!

Ironically, there's a debate going on in my area about how bike pipes are too loud.
