KNIFE FIGHTS! ...As an alternative to wars and conflicts between countries. The last person to die is the winner. (Seriously, it is very likely that both of the fighters get mortal injuries)

This method would also mean that since both politicians are likely to die:

a) They would only go to conflict if there is no diplomatic alternative AND they dedicated enough to put their life on the line for this particular casus belli.

b) Odds are that we would lose two politicians at once. Good riddance.

The downside being that it will bias elections towards skilled knife-fighters rather than competent rulers. Then again, the current system is biased towards skilled liars, so maybe that's just a bonus
