I just another insightful post on yahoo answers wondering why God would create people knowing they were headed for hell. As typical, Christians gave the standard answer "they choose hell out of their own free will". Really? They choose to go to hell? I guess no one is going to hell then because I can't think of anyone in their right mind who would choose that. I guess I'm safe them.
Of course, the Christians really mean that people automatically "choose hell" by rejecting God (never mind that even if people did want to follow God, God is terrible at communication). It's the same way a citizen of a dicatatorship "chooses" imprisonment and torture by rejecting their ruler. Of course that’s never how the idiot fundies see it. I’ve actually heard clown on yahoo answers interpret the OPS objection to God’s “love me or burn” routine by wanting God to force us to love him (like a psycho keeping his girlfriend chained up in the basement). Never mind that that’s EXACTLY WHAT GOD IS DOING BY THREATENING US WITH HELL IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!
-
The only thing the believer requires of an answer is that it's familiar and comfortable.

People compare God to being the most perfect, loving parent.
I want to know in what culture locking random kids inside a box filled with sharp stabby things for all eternity simply because they won't call you "Father" and adore you and lick your boots is considered "good parenting".
-
The thing that gets me is that fundies don't seem to understand that with their "turn or burn" scenario "free will" is pretty much impossible; they argue that God is "righteous" and justify God's monstrous behavior towards those that "reject" him.
Serious case of Stockholm Syndrome here.

Traditional Christian, Jewish and Muslim culture, apparently.

That's when they'll spout "God's ways our not our ways". I wonder if it ever occurred to them that our ways might be better than God's.

Don't they mean "There is a method to his madness"? The actions of the insane also aren't like "our ways.""
-
Free will is impossible with an omniscient God.
But even ignoring that, yeah, "free choice" is heavily coerced.
-
It has less to do with choosing Hell than it does wanting to get the fuck away from Christians.

Nope, because they conflate superior power with superior morality.

I know this is likely a troll being yahoo answers and all but (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080301084022AAvWcIi),
Why do people complain about "eternal torment' when they put themself in Hell ?
How can a prisoner complain when he put himself in prison by his behavior ?
Even his analogy is flawed. The state is still the one that puts the prisoner in jail (whether or not it's justified depends on the case).
-
Most prison complaints, regardless of truthfulness come down to:
1. "I'm really innocent."
2. "I am being mistreated relative to the crime I committed."
So, yeah. Those are both potentially valid points.
-
It's a moot point anyway, since hell doesn't exist. If it did, I would rather go there than sing everlasting praises to
the Kim family God(s).

...am I the only one who wants us to have members named "Ironswallow", "Irondigest" and "Ironshit"?

Yes...yes you are.
Ironbite-now shut up before I Ironkick you in the gonads.

Would that cause an ironinjury?

Not Jewish. We don't believe in Hell.

So what exactly happens to sinners and the unrepentant? Because Yahweh was rather unforgiving and generally had the mindset of "Hey, you. I don't like you. I'm gonna send my chosen people to be Dalek stand-ins and wipe you out".

Nah, more like if your skin started turning to iron. Ironskin. And, considering the location, Ironballs.

If I understand correctly, even though Judaism "officially" has an afterlife, it doesn't have any unified idea of what that afterlife is. Unlike Christianity, which emphasizes "securing one's place in Heaven," Judaism doesn't talk about it that much.
Anyway, you could probably search the internet for Jewish sites that explain this better, but be prepared to get wildly differing answers.

Ahh, okay. That said, the remark stands. In all three, the deity in question is, well, an asshole.

They get a longer period in Gehenna. Max is 12 months.
