For magpies? .308 is a bit overkill for birds.

Then again, unless you live far from other houses guns are not a good option. Well, maybe if you shoot from the roof/window at birds on the ground... Then you could eliminate the dangers of over penetration or missing.

They (the birds, not the neighbors) fucking deserve it. Also, I only plan on owning the single gun, so best to gowith the all-purpose round.

Or see about putting a replica raptor in the tree to scare off the magpies. Although I've no idea how expensive a good hawk decoy would be in Oz. You do have raptors, right? Or is it a marsupial nightmare shaped like a twenty pound flying squirrel with poison injecting talons and huge fangs?

Art, can you get a BB gun where you are? That might work just as well (if not better)than a slingshot. Also I've found stray cays take care of local bird populations fairly well. Just remember, when you hit a bird with whatever you're using, finish it as quickly as possible.

The main reason I went with a slingshot is because I can just use nice, free rocks as ammo. BB gun would almost certainly work better, but I'd have to constantly buy ammo for it, which would get rather expensive.

Well came out as trans to an internet friend today; she was very accepting.

Also, the girl I'd been mentioning in the Ask FQA thread a while back? She's my girlfriend now. Don't worry, I told her everything up front, and given that she's trans herself has been nothing but supportive.

I've arranged to have an extended phone conversation with my best friend back home on Monday... hope this streak of good luck isn't going to end. After 17 years, I really don't want to lose him. I don't know what I would possibly do if he left.
