a) This is now in the Finnish news as well. (Some part of me wonders, why?)
b) Obama sure talks a lot about god and faith. Considering all the claims about Obama being atheist/muslim/whatever it makes me wonder how often he should be talking about god to please those people. And concidering the end, the whole speech seems to be a "take that" to the people who claim that the democrats are "godless."
(Also, is it normal in USA that a politician brings up god in every other sentence he says?)
c) Some of the commenters (and the article) in Helsingin Sanomat claims that Obama said that goverment racism was behind the poor management of Katrina clean up... Except that the part where he talks about it is completely opposite of that claim:
Look at what happened in New Orleans and along the Gulf Coast when Katrina hit. People ask me whether I thought race was the reason the response was so slow. I said, "No. This Administration was colorblind in its incompetence." But everyone here knows the disaster and the poverty happened long before that hurricane hit. All the hurricane did was make bare what we ignore each and every day which is that there are whole sets of communities that are impoverished, that don't have meaningful opportunity, that don't have hope and they are forgotten. This disaster was a powerful metaphor for what's gone on for generations.
d)Nice speech. Other than praising god all the time the subject seems to be helping the poor. Seems like a nice sentiment. Can't see how anyone could use it against him.
...Oh wait, US politics.
