I wonder what's next.

A child band of thieves that say things like "A good thief never steals anything from anybody?"

Of course, they could go with the classic "It's only good to steal things back from people who stole them from you or others in the first place," which still fits in with the nature of both pirates and thieves (albeit heavily sanitized) but parents would still complain and it would still be heavily sanitized to what pirates and thieves actually do.

It's the logical result of using pirates as stock characters, whereby they become just a "cool thing" entirely disassociated with why they where interesting in the first place, and then get sanitized for children's cartoons. See also TvTropes on the subject.

There's a difference between not saying "Stealing is fun!" and explicitly saying "pirates don't steal!". If you wan to make a point about stealing in a kid's book, use another stock character.
