BuggerBoy, it's a far more common mindset than any sane person would like to believe.

That said, per most problems in someone's life shyness isn't something that someone else can really fix for you. What you do is try, fail, try again, until you start managing not to fail. Just don't be creepy about it and you should be fine. That said, any further squawking on the subject should wind up in it's own thread before I have to break out the thread split tool again.

Of course, when an explorer finds a previously unknown cave in rural northeast India, stumbles into a meeting for the Committee on Interspecies Venom Usage, and discovers that snakes have a highly complex bureaucracy, then the relevant assumption above is going to completely go to pieces.

It says "typically" so a small commune or even a goverment ruling the snakes in one country would not make the statement false. Unless you are making a hypothesis about planetwide interspecies Coalition of snakes which holds secret meetings in distant and unpopulated corners of earth... Just waiting for the right time to strike. Observing humanity. Moving their forces into position...

Because if snakes actually do have planetwide interspecies co-operation and command structure I for one vote for letting them have this planet and looking for a new home on Mars.

Well, the real misnomer would be the implication of monarchical structure. Given postcolonial India's tendencies towards socialist and centralised economic solutions, I'd imagine the snakes there also have something of an internationalist tendency and therefore have implemented policies accordingly.

I though they were an autonomous collective...
