I have literally never heard an adult be called that. I'm pretty sure the word "orphan" is used to refer exclusively to people who lose their parents during childhood.

If it isn't, then just about every person over 50 is an orphan.

Ha!  That is so cool.  Crows (and other corvids) are so smart.  They make and use tools, have their own language, and are earth-conscious.  What's not to love? ;)
