Nothing in human history has prevented more war than war.

Because the US government has never, ever started or provoked military conflicts for its own self-interest. Nope.

There would be a lot less of #2 if there were a lot more of #1.

Interesting piece of context I forgot to add in:
The Mallard strip came right after Mt. Luther King Day.

Oh, I get it! It's the old "I' them darkies can 'ave a holidah, wah can't we whayt Murkans have a Whaytey Dah?" garbage (hence the fact that the squirrels/rodents were originally monkeys/apes....a nasty moniker plastered on blacks constantly despite the fact that whites & other ethnicities are apes, too).

I'm also baffled that ethnicist, fundy, misogynists can be bronies. It's like an MRA who enjoys Free To Be You & Me. It makes no sense.

There's a lot of things that don't make sense. like the fact that Moe Tucker, formerly of the counterculture band Velvet Underground, is now a hardcore Tea Party supporter.

I know, yeesh! I can understand if she just toned it down and became a more moderate person as she got older but making a 180 into Far-Right stupid is nuts!

Or the fact that very few game critics like shmups, but almost all of them LOVE Call of Duty.

That's what a lot of people seemed to do. David Horowitz, for example. And Michael Savage.

I know folks change political sides a lot just as they change religions or other worldviews. I, myself, used to be one of those Bible-nuts. Now, I'm super-Liberal. That said, I am baffled when the change is the other way around. What would possess a person to switch from a worldview based on open-mindedness, freedom, changing the corrupt status quo, fighting "The Man", human equality, etc. into a worldview based on stodgy, closed-minded selfishness, bigotry, repression, hate, etc.? It blows my mind.

I think folks who go from Liberal to insanely Far-Right were just in the counterculture out of youthful rebellion rather than anything meaningful. They were Flowerkids, Punkers, etc. just to be different or "annoy old people".

maybe they werent' open minded or as into equality as they claimed.

Maybe they were authoritarian dicks that just switched what they were being authoritarian about.

From Wikipedia:

"To be honest, I never paid attention to what the hell was going on. My always voting Democrat was the result of that. My philosophy was and is all politicians are liars, bums and cheats."

...so she went from a simplistic worldview to a simplistic worldview. Also:

I think personal circumstances can play into it - Dave Sim of Cerebus fame went into his crazy woman-hating period (and is yet to emerge) after a divorce.

As for Moe, she may have been a drummer for a proto-punk band but I'd imagine they were a bit apolitical. She wasn't particularly famous of celebrated like Keith Moon or John Bonham or even Nick Mason! I'd imagine get got into drugs, got clean then eschewed that life & worldview because of it. Some folks only go into the rebellion part rather than any high ideals.

Others are simply attention hogs looking for the next big thing.

Some are trying to find themselves.

And some, like Michelle Shocked, are confused people with psychological problems who are extremely impressionable.

R. Crumb, HOOBOY! I never knew what to make of him (other than weird man from an even weirder family that draws really weird & gross cartoons). Doe's he really believe the bigoted stuff he drew, is it irony or is he really a hateful bigot? I'd hear about how "counterculture" he was. However, I also read that he loathed the hippies & youth culture that read his stuff.

As horrid as it is, the comic does seem to be a regurgitation of the most cliche tropes. Perhaps this is a satire. Crumb was an atheist with a very dim view of religion & this comic is supposedly extolling "Christian Morals/Values". That's a red flag, right there. He was also pretty anti-establishment. I think this is a satire rather than genuine hate speech. I think his "Ethnicist/Sexist/Bigoted" stuff was a rather edgy Stealth Parody.

Sorry to come to this a bit late, but yes, it is satire.  It was in an issue of Weird Magazine, along with "When the Niggers Take Over America."  They were both over-the-top parodies of racist views.  The issue was edited by Aline Kominsky-Crumb, Crumb's Jewish wife.

Yeah, Crumb's always had a great case of "sardasm" (sardonic sarcasm) going on in his comics, which even ties in to his mild case of misanthropy. He doesn't suffer fools with any patience, and has a bitter edge to him...which I like. He's become sort of a cool grumpy ol' man.

When it comes to conservative bronies, I do find it funny that they like a children show that talks about the virtue of being a decent person and caring about others, yet they turn around and support a party that says it's ok to be a selfish jerkass. After all old school republicans look down right socialist when compared to the current GOP.

And this is from a liberal page on FB, so did you give a shit when Bush was doing so??

The whole NSA thing has exposed large numbers of people on both sides of the aisle as complete hypocrites who think something is only bad when the other party does it.
