While all of the above is helpful, if somebody comes in with a complaint possible causes should be ruled out first.

Patient's wife: We were deep in the woods eating organic fruits and vegetables, doing jumping jacks and meditating when his appendix burst. By the time the helicopter arrived to airlift him to the hospital, sepsis had set in. It was too late to save him.

I'm putting this here because it's Liberal Logic 101, but I have to admit it's a good point.

Agreed that it is a good point.

Actually I think it should have gone to best political cartoons. (Well maybe not the "best" but certainly not bad.)

It's only a good point in that people are defending the modern day use of it (which I have yet to see personally but then this is the only liberal-leaning place I hang out at)

It's a bad point in that it is defending the former use of it.

The good point I saw in it is that it's calling Dems out on their hypocrisy, which they should be. If only it called out the Republicans as well.

Did Bush use wiretaps the way the comic describes him? If so then that is less "defence" and merely stating the facts. If not then this comic is lying in order to make a case (when they could have just represented the democrats hypocrisy) and are spoiling a good point by resorting to lying and hypocrisy of their own.

My point is that it's a red herring.  Invasion of privacy is invasion of privacy.  What Bush did is just as bad as what's going on now, even assuming that Liberal Logic 101 is telling the truth and is not just making up yet another bit of bullshit to make Republicans seem well-reasoned and democrats seem fucktarded.  And when the Democrats called them out, they were ignored by the Republicans.  And now that the Republicans are whining, I'm just sitting back and enjoying the sweet, sweet wine of the tears of hypocritical morons.

I guess we could add that graphic to the "Even a Stopped Clock" thread. It would be in "good" company ::)

I think it's just a case of partisan hypocrites calling out other partisan hypocrites for being partisan hypocrites. Liberal Logic 101 is very clearly run by a partisan Republican, and is just as hypocritical as the people they're calling out, if not more so.

though they have to lie to make it.

Bush was sweeping everyone up the same as obama.

He just said he was only targeting al queda operatives and only over seas calls.  But that ended up being not quite true.  In fact Bush got caught in a number of lies about who's information was being gathered and when and where.

And unlike Obama, didnt' even have the cover of the law yet.  I mean does not remember the telecoms got retroactive immunity?  What do people think they were being giving immunity for?

Even when they kind of have a point, they fail.

I suspected it was hypocritical. Are Tea Partiers even capable of opening their mouths without telling a lie?

Ya know, the whole concept of legal immunity confounds me to no end.  Except in very, very specific circumstances, it just seems like it gives people an excuse to break the law for the fuck of it.  Diplomatic immunity?  Worst fucking idea ever.  If you're going to work with other countries, you'd damn well better know and abide by their laws.  Sure, provide for their defense, but if you run down a nun in the streets of downtown America, then it shouldn't matter if you're a millionaire oil tycoon, a dumbass kid, a regular dick, or a foreign diplomat: you go to fucking prison for breaking the fucking law.
