On the topic of spacing for dialogue and such...its like basic GUI design, all you need are a few examples of how its done by a professional. You don't need to read labyrinthine tomes on composition and style, just read a book. Unless that book is either the Bible or Twilight.
I still don't understand how people can miss such basic, fundamental principles of GUI design... I understand being inexperienced, I understand wanting to have your own style, but if that style comes at the expense of user-friendliness, then your style needs revision. People won't want to use your software if it isn't user-friendly.
