Homophobia is alive and well in Australian politics.
« on: March 12, 2012, 04:16:31 am »
Former National party "Maverick" and current leader of his own "Australian" party, Bob Katter runs on a platform of opposing gun control, denying climate change and...saying teh gey is icky!

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3lDHtJa0krc" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3lDHtJa0krc</a>

The last platform is apparently the centerpiece of his campaign.

This is on the basis that there are no poofs in Far North Queensland according to Bob Katter.

The ironic and really rather sad thing is that one of Bob's brother's is gay.

The party's name is the Democratic Party. It has been since 1830. Please spell correctly.

Well, this is Katter we're talking about. What were you expecting?

If you ask me though, Abbott would be a much better example of homophobia in Australian politics, purely because he's opposition leader whereas Katter is just a looney with fringe appeal, much like Pauline Hanson.

I think Pauline believed what she was saying. Katter does not.

You know, if I watched that ad without context, I would have thought it was satire.

Either way, there are voters who believe what they say, so it makes little difference in practice.

Who, Katter?

Uh, how is this news? Homophobia is alive and well in Australian politics and has been for years, Katter isn't much different from anyone else, he is just more straightforward.

Why the fuck does Katter have to come from my home state? Oh, that's right, QLD is full of the rednecks of Australia...

Oh, he might be homophobic. But he's not the crazed bush hick a lot of people think he is. It's an act.

The Welsh Ranga is worse. At least Abbot is consistent. You might not like what he says, but at least he doesn't flip-flop every other minute.

That may be, but whether act or not, he still ends up poisoning political discussion. Also, it makes him dishonest.
That said, I've stopped trying to anticipate what people around here want a while ago, I've found it makes things smoother.

Look at it this way. At least there's a (rather slight, admittedly) chance Gillard won't be a total cuntbiscuit on any given issue. With Abbott, cuntbuscuitry is guaranteed.

What's worse, a politician who always acts the way he says he will act, or a politician who always says the right thing but then does the opposite?

Personally, I don't vote for either of them. But in terms of homophobia, at least Katter and Abbot are straight about it, unlike la Gillard, who claims to be all for equality, then kicks us in the teeth.

Also, and this is completely personal opinion, from the moment she stepped into public life, my gaydar has been screaming a positive reading on her, if she isn't in a cliche beard relationship, I'll pay for her rhinoplasty.
