The goal of adverticing did change around the mid-20th century. Before that the goal was to take advantage of an existing market by highlighting the advantages of your products. Nowadays a big purpose of marketing is to grow the existing market or even create a market for your product by using the previously mentioned psychological methods.

Not true. Many products, like deodorant, invented their own need. In fact, until a marketing campaign invented the dangers of body odor, deodorant did not sell much at all. Other products did much the same.

Basically my dad wants me if need be to graduate in 4 rather then 3.5 years if need be for an internship.  I pointed out that unpaid internships dont give me any leg up on finding a job so he counters with a personal anecdote and got mad at me for using stats
