Hardly boring. Imagine what Europe would be like if there actually had been continued wide spread pagan worship. Particularly if it was an organised worship rather than peasants clinging to remnant supersitition.

I'd read in Terry Jones book Barbarians that the druids used human sacrifice specifically against Romans, one of the reasons it was the other religion aside from Christianity that was banned.

These days if you ritually kill someone for politico-religious reasons it's called an "act of terrorism". Paganism wasn't the fluffy bunny worldview that some modern pagans think it was. In Rome it certainly reinforced patriarchal and elitist values in much the same way that many variants of Christianity, Judaism and Islam do today.

Back to the original topic, why do people think it was actually easier to get the Catholic church in the states to cough up money than here in Australia. It seems a bit bizarre that victims of paedo priests in the antipodes should get less than victims in America.
