Elitists Say the Darndest Things
« on: January 08, 2013, 12:32:58 am »
An idea I had after running into the hive of elitist fanboys known as the Morrowind GameFAQs forums (though I would like to add that this isn't everyone on that forum, but holy hell are they vocal)

So, to start it off... Morrowind elitist fanboys.  Responding to a topic which seems to be a troll topic, but when the people replying are as bad as or worse than the troll...

Quote
One either likes the game or has complaints about it. Claiming to do both is hypocrisy.

Have to have your hand held to dungeons? I never have trouble. If you can't follow their directions then I'm sorry for you. I for one love the lack of compass. It forces you to explore as if it were a real world. What's fun about having a compass tell you where to go?

Also did you start with oblivion? The earlier TES's were more hardcore. They dumbed down a lot in oblivion and skyrim. IMO the more the game leaves to you to figure out, the better it is. Aslong as it has substance. That's why I spent over 500hrs on dark souls.

Quote
Yes. Infact those games he listed are notoriously softcore. He probably never played baldurs gate or kings field. It's funny him calling himself an adult. And he's on a gaming website, yet he doesn't know what a "hardcore" game is. Not in his opinion, but unanimously known as hardcore.

Quote
It's all about your definition of RPG, mine places more emphasis on quality than the one you share with Bethesda. At least they have an excuse, moving the goal posts so they don't have to try to top what they could do a decade ago, but where's yours?

(This next one is probably not that elitist, but considering his attitude towards the developers, I felt like it managed to land just on the opposite side of the line between opinionated and elitist)

Quote
So furious you're making typos half-way through your insults. Bethesda used to make oceans, now they make puddles; puddles that the new crowd (That would be you) are all too willing to inexplicably drown in. Part of it falls on the industry's insistence on voice acting, making it prohibitively expensive to cater to people with attention spans. The other part? I'm not sure, I've long been under the impression Todd Howard had a severe head injury during Oblivion's development, but I'm not sure how factual that is. In any case, he decided the most important things in life were beheading things and riding horses, it's very New-Age Bethesda.

Leading the rest of the team down that road was really just the next step in a long trek toward overwhelming mediocrity.

(Replying to someone who boasted that "PC players just stay on their boards, they don't start shit until consoletards come in and start stirring shit")

its the insecure Skyrim gen, they hate themselves for loving Skyrim and for being born, so they try to troll the board of the best TES, Morrowind. i never saw a good troll from that gen, its just the kind of lowbrow peasantry on display here

(This next one is obviously tongue in cheek, but still elitist nonetheless)

Quote
Why do the xbox console peasant crowd come to this forum and start a flame war? You dont see the glorious PC master race stinking up the COD forums.

Edited to add:

(These were in reply to someone who fell in love with Morrowind, but also enjoyed Oblivion and Skyrim.  They also had trouble installing the game for a bit.)

Quote
If you managed to spend that much time on Oblivion, you're... Easily entertained. Welcome nonetheless.

Quote
Three days trying to install Morrowind, huh? And you enjoyed Oblivion? You don't say!

Yes, let's forget how Morrowind had a game-breaking bug that was easily abused almost right from the beginning of the game, a bug that wasn't ever fixed, to my knowledge, even once the Game of the Year edition came out with all the expansions and patches and shit.  And how Morrowind's combat was...lacklustre, to say the least.  Its a great game, but these folks treat it like it was ejaculated directly from Christ's mighty cock.  Then again, pretty much every game series has people like this...Elder Scrolls, Thief, Fallout (Yes, I'm talking about YOU, NMA), you name it.  They're all irritating little pissants who like to think they're "hardcore" because they haven't played anything made after the first Xbox finished its cycle.

They treat all sequels as utter betrayals, like their pet game is a precious gem that ought never be touched or so much as looked at again, thereby killing the entire franchise that had been built up around it.  You motherfuckers want to talk betrayal?  Come back when you've played every Ultima game from The First Age of Darkness to Ascension.  Then, you can complain about betrayal.  You need only look at the travesty that was Ultima IX to truly understand what real betrayal is...that game was depressingly bad.  An end such an amazing series didn't deserve, it should've gone out in a blaze of glory, but it just died with a whimper.

Not even a Whimper.  I went and sat through every Ultima retrospective Spoony put out.  And IX was such...a betrayal a non-fan like myself felt betrayed.

Ironbite-the amount of sheer retarded bullshit you were expected to swallow with IX was just....ug.

And that, right 'ere, is why Lord British needs to get off his duff, and get the rights to make the Pagan and Ascension we ought to have had.  As it is, EA's not going to make a single-player Ultima game, and that's all it'd need to be.  With the tools we have today, it could be...awesome.

Probably not happenin, but a man can hope, no?

Oh, not to mention, I don't have an exact quote for this, but there was one person who said that, starting with Oblivion, TES was catered more towards the Xbox crowd than the PC crowd.  Which was why every game after Morrowind "sucked hard"

...Lol?  Did they forget that not only was Morrowind released for Xbox, but that it was in fact RUSHED because of the Xbox?

Very few things are more annoying then game elitists.  A great example of this is go on any PVP server on an mmo and simply ask for help while getting repeatedly ganked/killed by a higher level person from a different faction while you're trying to quest.

"PVE pansies"

"Go back to your own server" (since WoW has cross server parties now)

"Quit being a baby.  If you don't like the rules of the game, then don't play."

"LOL, fucking noobs.  Leave <game> to the real gamers."

"It's not our fault you suck at this game."

Okay, so I can't ask for help when someone 30 levels higher than me has been following me around killing me instantly every time I spawn for half an hour?  I'll gank or kill a lower level enemy player once or twice, but since when is it not okay to ask for help when you can't even play the game?

The funny thing is, "PC Master Race" was originally coined by Ben Croshaw, AKA Yahtzee, to make fun of elitist PC gamers.

Spoony's review of Ultima IX was one of the most painful things I've ever endured. I'm not even into the series and I still couldn't believe how badly the entire game was butchered. I'd love to know how many people completed it, much less enjoyed it.

I preferred Oblivion to Morrowind but tbh i think Fallout 3 is the best Bethesda RPG.

(on a vaguely connected note, anyone else think ID Software have got worse since they got bought by Bethesda's parent company, ZeniMax?)

TGR:  I know that feeling, playing WoW myself.  I've actually gotten my raiding group together on a rare night to go protect the lower-level newbies from assholes.  It IS rather funny to see how fast that level 68 Alliance dick runs when three level 85+ Hordies show up to defend the poor level 3 just trying to quest.

Ian:  I haven't seen any issues on my end... heck, I still thoroughly enjoy RAGE, even if Dead City creeps me the everloving fuck out.

Believe it or not, I like Morrowind for Morrowind's sake, Oblivion for Oblivion's sake, and Skyrim for Skyrim's sake.  I can't really say which ones I like better.

They have different bits of awesome.  I think Morrowind had the most interesting setting, but I prefer the story in Oblivion and the gameplay in Skyrim.

"if your boyfriend pauses call of duty to text you back, dump him because he plays shitty games"

Look, I know Call of Duty isn't some intense storyteller but it isn't a shitty game. It does have substance and story and people can get attached to the characters. I still haven't gotten over certain deaths because I got attached to the Modern Warfare crew.

I never go into Call of Duty expecting to be amazed and stunned. I play it for what it is. There are plenty of worse games and just because a badly behaved portion of gamers play the games doesn't make the games themselves bad.
