You haven't seen some of the character designs have you?
Nope. Let me guess, it looks like a (drawn, duh) loli porn website?

You know whats sad, and depressingly racist.

I took one look at the characters, turned to jai and went "this is made by asians isnt it"

Not really all that racist. It's no more racist than seeing tribal art and saying "This is made by Africans, isn't it?".

Certain countries have certain art styles and art tropes that come through in stuff they make.

Korea and Japan all seem to have a fondness for anime-ish styles, and have a tendency to also include cute little girls and cute little animal people as playable characters.

Alongside big monstrous giant beasts that seem to be quiet and gentle.

Actually TERA reminds me of FF11 more than anything, now that I think about it.

EDIT:

I found a game called Sorcery for the PS3 (involving the use of Playstation Move, though I think it looks pretty clever) and a lot of people called it a Skyward Sword rip-off in a way that indicated that this automatically made it worse than Skyward Sword.

Now, aside from some people's certain irrational hatred of anything beyond pushing buttons...

People complain about how games have similar concepts in a negative manner.  This feels very backwards to me.

If a company makes a game that has a similar concept, they'll be under a lot of pressure to make it BETTER than the game that their game vaguely resembles.  (Aside from shovelware games, but shovelware is shovelware and will always exist and there will always be people who buy it.)

When companies compete, customers win.  When they compete in the same genre (sorta), customers who are a fan of that genre wins.

Also, no, Sorcery is not a Skyward Sword rip-off.  They have entirely different concepts, different form of motion control with different requirements, and so forth.  The only similarity is that they are action/adventure games with motion control.

Replayed and beat Rainbow Six Vegas 2.  Lots of fun sniping and blowing up terrorists.  At one point, i was blindsided by two mooks who dropped from a skylight.  The next time I entered the room, I threw C4 on the ground and backed up.  When they dropped from their ropes, BOOM!

I also had a laugh loading all 3 doors of a small room with C4 to take out 1 guard.  Hey, there's no kill like overkill!

I don't see why Grand Theft Auto 4 has such praise. It has a sucky gameplay system to me.

However, the last DLC for Borderlands 2 is a hoot and a half, still.

I can work GTA IV fine. The cover system usually works, but I really like the driving. If you treat it more like a real car and don't try to handbrake all the corners, you'll be zipping around just fine.

I wasn't talking about either one. I'm fine with driving. But there's more to gameplay than driving and a cover system. Such as proper waypoints, an easy way to refer to your mission notes, accessing your phone is a pain because they make it work like an actual phone.

But that's just me. I'm sure people are just fine with it.

Also, calling Saints Row a GTA clone is doing both games a disservice.

No proper waypoints? It gives you exact waypoints AND a GPS guide to them.

Agreed. But I am iffy about SR4

Agreed. But I am iffy about SR4

Saints Row started as a GTA clone, albeit well done enough that people liked it. The sequel tried to intentionally distance itself from the serious direction GTA IV took by becoming an over the top parody of the series.

Then Saints Row The Third just decided "BALLS OUT CRAZY TIME MOTHAFUCKAS" and started a game design process that appears to have involved writing a bunch of random words and concepts, throwing them in a shredder, and piecing together content from what came out.

Saints Row 4 has become so divested from its origins that you may as well change the title now.

I agree. Saints Row 2 was the best, with the best customization and the best story. It takes skill to make that game make you cry (and EVERYONE cried for Carlos).

Bah. I can't explain it. Either way, to me it isn't as good a game as I was expecting it to be. Luckily things like this are down to taste mostly.

Frankly, GTA just isn't my kind of game at the moment. It'll probably get better further on but right now I find myself aching to return to another game. Probably why I have it paused on my PS3 and have gone to BL2 on my 360 to try to finish up tiny tina's assault.

As for SR4, it's said to be bigger and badder than SR3 and I'm curious if it's the last game in the series. They're running out of steam.

SR3 was "bigger and badder" in the sense that they had more stuff. But it felt shallow, like they were just throwing whatever came to mind without care and seeing what stuck.

Pretty much, this. And they fucked up the clothing.
