Not now at least. Some white groups (as pointed out the Italians and Irish to name a couple) did face institutional racism when they arrived. However it hasn't really been a problem for decades now.

Edit: It would also heavily depend on context and geography. An Irish person here in Australia carrying an Irish flag would usually be and considered to be a relatively harmless gesture, the Irish don't face much discrimination org bigotry now, hey, whatever. Doing that in Dublin would be a bit worse.

There's a difference between white pride and ethnic pride. A lot of people seem to miss it.

Along with that, a lot of people like to say 'nobody who is white has ever faced discrimination'. This is false on many levels: 1) You're erasing the LGBTQ white people and 2) You're erasing the fact that the Irish and sometimes the Italians are still discriminated against. And the fact that they were badly discriminated against back in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Hell, it was even considered oppression at the time (that icky word people like to over-define). 3) You're also ignoring the disabled white folks. Being white doesn't protect you from everyfuckingthing.

So, yeah. People need to learn the differences. Small, but important differences.

I think's it more accurate to say no one was discriminated against BECAUSE they were white.

It would be even more accurate to say that white people do not experience institutional racism in the United States (or whichever other white-majority country you prefer).

Basically. White people have experienced discrimination for being white, but not institutionally.

Chester Arthur was accused of being Canadian.  And if I remember correctly, there was controversy because John McCain was born in the Panama Canal zone.

Yes there was controversy...for about 2 nanoseconds before people decided they didn't care.  Obama was born in Hawaii, about 2 years or so after the state was made a part of the Union.  People swear up and down he's not an American citizen despite his mother being one.

Ironbite-you really need to remember things correctly

Controversy over McCain? More like the odd comment here or there, with mostly silence from the Tea Party. The only "controversy" I saw was the left wing pointing out the hypocrisy involved. Also note the lack of whinging about Ted Cruz being born in Canada. And Chester A. Arthur's presidency took place in the 19th century, when social dynamics were vastly different (mainly that Canada was still a British dominion at the time, and Americans weren't exactly on the best terms with the English throne), so it doesn't really apply to a modern scenario.

By comparison, look at the widespread "Birther" movement, which gained so much ground that the White House was actually forced to release Obama's birth certificate (and that still didn't shut the birthers up). Not to mention the heavily racial language used by a lot of Birthers...

All I'm saying is that this kind of stupidity is hardly unique to Obama.  I doubt this shit would have been so bad if he were white, but it's hardly unique to racial minorities.

Oh, and you're repeating the same old song about the Tea Party being made up entirely of racist, ignorant dominionists.  Kind of like how certain right wingers claim the entirety of Occupy Wall Street is made up of lazy bums who need to get jobs.

Please show me where I claimed that the entire Tea Party -- or even all birthers -- are racists and dominionists. All I did was point out that race is almost certainly a factor in the Obama birther movement gaining so much ground. I never even mentioned religion.

No white person has ever faced systematic discrimination for that reason in the United States. Not one. White people may face persecution for other reasons; they are not victims of racism. Period.
