It is also exaggerating everything. The jury aren't KKK and the protesters haven't burned down the city.
No matter what happens, no matter what my last words may end up being, I want everyone to claim that they were:

The cartoonist is South African. Just another viewpoint, and maybe a little under-informed, but I think his heart was in the right place.

Not a cartoon per se but since I see a well known Hollywood actor in it.... anyway, great message.

At any given time in modern history, a Greatest Country in the World, if it ever existed according to any realistic set of statistics, would hold that number one position only briefly. With how the world works now, all within an interconnected global economy, and to an increasing extent, global policies, there never will be a Greatest Country.

Touting your country's greatness can be as benign as team pride, or as toxic as genocidal imperialism. Probably best to just forget the whole jingoistic Greatness obsession and focus instead on enlightened self interest through joint projects with other nations.

All any nation can aspire to is to be a decent fucking neighbor in the global neighborhood. Make useful things. Educate your citizens. Don't let your neighbor down the street beat and abuse their family (citizens). Don't let them starve. But don't be an over-zealous, nosey bully with a secret greedy agenda when you intervene. Volunteer to go in on big projects that make the whole neighborhood better, safer and more advanced.

Damn straight.  How would you quantify "greatness" anyway?  And who is really qualified to make that judgement, without having extensively studied the languages, cultures, and histories of every nation in human history?  Someone claiming that their country is the greatest in the world is like a toddler saying that they have the best mommy in the world.

I'm reminded of a line from the antagonist of the fantastic Chris Rock movie 'Head Of State', in regards to those convinced of their country's exceptionalism compared to all others:  "God Bless America, and no place else!"
There is light and darkness in the world, to be sure.  However, there's no harm to be had in walking in the shade or shadows.

Two questions:
1. Why do all these people look incredibly stupid?
2. What the hell is this cartoon trying to say?

Can't answer to the stupid thing, but I think the point is that, for all the talk about race relations in the U.S., how to improve them, etc., almost all of the "dialogue" is between people who happen to be of the same race. There's still not a lot of actual interracial dialogue.

To me it seems the image would be more accurate if some of the black people had megaphones and tried to shout at the white people to get their attention while being completely ignored. On the other hand, I might be wrong about this since I follow the situation only superficially from far away.

There really is a terrible lack of dialogue between ethnicities here. How many U.S. whites have actual, genuine friends who are black, outside of co-workers, fellow students and maybe some neighbors? Other than in more or less public spaces, there is shockingly little interaction on a day-to-day, truly social peer level. I read an article linked somewhere on another thread that showed that even online social networking is surprisingly segregated for most whites. Sure, probably all of us on this forum have RL and FB friends of different races, but that is not the norm for about 75% of white FB users in America, and I wonder if a significant percentage of black FB users have no whites on their friends list, too.
