Video Game Thread 2.0

I've decided to challenge myself in Hotline Miami yet again.  This time, instead of a pure speed/high score run, I'm playing exclusively with the Oscar mask, which for those unaware, makes everything really dark.  As in difficult to see.  I'll give ya a peek, how bout that?



Sooooooo, yeah.  This is gonna be difficult.  Then again, I like difficult!  Already 4 chapters in, and I think I'm getting acclimated to the dark.

I finished To The Moon yesterday. I have to say, the writing was pretty solid, though the ending was a bit of a disappointment. It was so close to a very moving bittersweet ending but instead opted for a cliche perfect happy ending at the last second.

Shogun 2 ain't bad at all. The battle AI isn't that good, though I haven't played that many battles, but the strategy AI is a lot better than previous games, IMO the best vanilla AI so far.

Battle AI in total war game's always been somewhat questionable. I've done some completely absurd things in Medieval 2 and pulled off a victory. Usually because they'll pull right up into arrow range and just stand there.

Has anyone played any of the Blackwell games? Great indie point-and-click adventure with very well written and (most surprisingly) voice acted story and characters. If this is the sort of thing you like in a game, you really can't go wrong.

Man, I just love the indie scene for bringing back one of my favourite genres of old. The scratch a lot of itches that the publisher-backed side of things sadly ignore most of the time.

Just beat the Sleeping Dogs Halloween DLC. God damn, but that's a fun game.

Picked up a beta version of a new modpack for Minecraft: Feed The Beast.

What is it?  Basically, its a collection of all the best Forge mods for Minecraft (IndustrialCraft, BuildCraft, RedPower, Thermal Expansion, ThaumCraft, etc) put together in one pack which is being updated and maintained either by the mod authors themselves, or with their permission.  Like I said, its currently in beta, but it stands to be at least a serious competitor for Technic/Tekkit.  Oh!  Also, its got Forestry + Extra Bees.  Haven't gotten around to working with that mod (mostly been working with BC and Thermal Expansion), but it looks...pretty damn cool.

The launcher is a little buggy, in regard to downloading the pack correctly, but the help section's got a fix for it, which is on the first page, last I saw.

All in all, it runs better than Technic, starts up faster, has fewer lag spikes, and includes such nifty things as the Portal Gun mod, which has become an indispensable part of my life.  One last thing, its working off 1.4.2 'nilla Minecraft, so you've got all the nifty bits from there, too.

Seriously, that list needs more bullet hell to overcompensate for the unloseability of all of those LEGO games*.

*They're fun and all, but there needs to be a hardcore mode where death sends you back to the start of the room.

Doom 3 was released on the 360? Huh, I could've sworn that came out on the Xbox long before the 360 was out.

It's the BFG Edition, which includes the first two games, as well as the expansion pack and new levels for the third. Also, updated graphics, of course.
