MegaUpload does not engage in criminal activity, yet because certain people use MegaUpload to do so, MegaUpload must be shut down?

Following that logic, the U.S. Postal Service should be shut down because some folks sent some package bombs or infectious material through the mail.

Guy potentially keeping counterfeit goods in his safe deposit box? Shut down the entire bank. And all associated branches. No citizen, move along, nothing going on here.

guy posts a classified ad selling allegedly stolen items in a newspaper, shut down the newspaper and arrest the owners.

I think this is a little bit disingenuous as megaupload doesn't have allegedly illegal materials, but a lot of materials on it that are most definitely illegal and prior to the shutdown a quick search would have proved it. Although there is the legitimate core of what you're saying that it wasn't megaupload distributing the copywritten material but the people who uploaded it. In many respects it is no different than killing gmail or skype because I could use it to send a music file to somebody else.

That said, I'm kind of curious what is going to happen, this site is based internationally so it is not in the jurisdiction of the US.

Well, then just strike the word “allegedly,” and change “guy” to “fifteen guys,” or whatever number is appropriate for the market your newspaper reaches, and we got the same situation.

Why do people have this odd idea that the nuclear missile system is connected to the rest of the world? It isn't, never has been, never will be. Not even the government is that stupid. The only way to launch a nuclear missile is to be at the silo you want to launch from.

Russia's nukes had a automatic dead man's switch of some kind. No one (outside the Russian government) knows the specifics, but most agree it's since been shut down, for obvious reasons. Some accounts say it was triggered by not getting a signal from Moscow, other say it was triggered by detecting the atmospheric effects of a nuke going off.

No but most people are when the mention the nuke system. Also the system you are talking about isn't really quite the same as being connected to the internet and being able to be triggered by a savvy internet user.

I am still quite upset about MegaUpload. Even if it did have a shitty way of doing things I kinda needed it to get Lip Service since there's no other way to watch it in the US that I've found.
