Thank you, anti-vaxxers

(1/1)

gyeonghwa:
Because of you, we get to enjoy an insurgence of whooping cough:

--- Quote ---A record number of more than 3,500 cases were reported last year, more than double the 2010 total.

Four babies have died from the infection in as many years and the Health Department is urging parents to be prepared for more cases.
--- End quote ---

--- Quote ---"Whatever you hear of the risks of vaccination - of a whole range of different things - are totally outweighed by the risk of the disease itself," he said.

"Measles kills, whooping cough kills. All of those diseases that you can now get a vaccination to stop, can kill children."
--- End quote ---

Sure, four death seems small. But all four death were preventable, especially in a developed country. A preventable death is still an unacceptable death.

An anti-vaxer would claim the vaccine kills more people than the disease.

You can't talk sense to them. If someone is truly stupid, there is nothing to be done.

Auri-El:
Not the first I've heard of this. I really think refusal to vaccinate one's children should be considered neglect and/or abuse and the kids should be taken away. It's your own business if you want to risk your own health, it's bad parenting to risk your children's health, and absolutely horrible to risk everyone else's.

RavynousHunter:
Kali, I believe the correct, legal term would be "reckless endangerment."

Some of them genuinely do care about children but are misguided. But some of the more heartless ones would say that it's their right to refuse to be vaccinated, and if anyone else gets sick because of them, that's their fault because they didn't have to stand next to him.

Yeah, it's all sorts of wrong.
