Heck, I just discovered Farscape on Netflix streaming. It may be a decade-plus old, but damn, it's a nice series.

I'm no linguist, but I'd wager that nearly every non-constructed language has words with multiple meanings that lead to occasional ambiguity.

Even so, I'm pretty sure English could use some distinctions along the lines of eros/agape/philia/storge. And for the sake of arguments about copyright law and a hundred other issues, there really need to be English equivalents to gratis and libre. I mean, it's OK to have the same words for "watermelon" and "hatbox with false compartment for concealing cannabis", because no-one's gonna mix those things up, but using "love" as a sticking plaster for any kind of strong affection is ridiculous.

Two words: Arranged marriage.

And alcohol influenced one night relationships.

And rape.

And prostitution led to pregnancies more often in the old days.
No matter what happens, no matter what my last words may end up being, I want everyone to claim that they were:
"If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine."

I'll bet that rape was a pretty major part of my own ancestry. Quite a few Balkan peasants for ancestors and fairly frequent conquering armies traipsing through the area back in the day.

I suppose the take-home message is that I ever want to breed, my best bet is to join the army and hope that imperialism gets back in vogue in the very near future.

Ah, I've seen your picture, Art. S'long as you ain't drooling into your beard, you can get laid just fine. Lots of women love that scruffy look.

At first I assumed you were talking about FQA then I realised that you referred to this weird chat on reproduction we seem to be having now.

And now, back to funny pictures.

I think if you wanted to complain about multiple meanings for words, you could do a hell of a lot worse than "love" being used for strong affection.
Still can't think of a signature a year later.
