Those don't even seem like usable muscles. They're physically large, but they seem more like they've been inflated through injections than actually built up. Even outside of a loss of range of motion from his body simply being too large for flexibility, he's probably much weaker (or at least more vulnerable to injury) than he seems.

If they don't raise strength, why do they take them in sports?

I'm assuming that he was referring to the injection of various substances to make the muscles appear larger than they actually are.

Also, overuse of steroids can do damage to the body that results in weakness (relative to muscle size), susceptibility to injury, etc.

I don't think Chitoruy12 means steroids. More like the Synthol injections.

Basically, since men (usually) don't get silicon breast implants to make themselves look better they instead inject some Synthol into their muscles to make them look bigger. Although it doesn't actually make the muscles stronger, just changes the appearance.

Yeah, that's what I was getting at. Steroids do have legitimate benefits (otherwise they wouldn't need to be banned in sports), but these injections are basically like filling a balloon with oil. It makes your muscles superficially larger, but that's it. According to Wikipedia, risks include "pulmonary embolisms, nerve damage, infections, stroke, and the formation of oil-filled granulomas, cysts or ulcers in the muscle." Some people even fill their muscles with sesame oil and suffer allergic reactions.

Yeah, something that's disproven by just about any use of synthol injections. It was probably written by someone who uses them himself.
