Isn't it nice that somebody was caught and apprehended and not riddled with bullets? would people be happier if they pumped him full of lead?
I didn't say it would be a good outcome. Also, the man managed to get inside the White House and very close to the presidents room, he may have been apprehended in this case,but if this guy had been carrying a bomb or gun the president would be dead right now.

For this exact reason it's policy for police or military units to aim for the head of suicide bombers as not to detonate the bomb from the bullet itself and to not let the bomber live long enough to detonate.
And what about a bomb with a dead man's switch?
Well it's better the bomb goes of 30 yards away from anyone than right next to the most important man on earth.
Plus, it's not like they'd be able to talk him down or anything.
