I'll second UP in firmly stating that the Anders Breivik massacre was in fact very prominent in the news here.

I third Mr. Paragon.

Breivik was HUGE in the news! Granted, the wingnuts among us would de-emphasize his being a white male "Christian" but it was still huge news and considered a HUGE tragedy by everybody (except the most deranged wingnuts).

Besides, how could you ignore "Maniac bombs a building, killing a few people to divert the police's attention so he can go to a summer camp and gun down DOZENS of innocent kids who were just having some woodsy fun".

It was all over the news here the day it happened. Even with all the mass shootings that happen here in the states, the Breivik atrocity really grabbed everybody's attention.

Fourthed or whatever. I will say that it had little effect, mostly because we saw it as this bizarre anomalous thing. Norwegians aren't exactly known for mass shootings.
