Understandably, this is causing a lot of anger (https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-51079965), both inside and outside Iran.

Would people have preferred they insisted they had nothing at all to do with it?  I bet Donald would if it was the US...

It did take the US much longer to admit that they had accidentally shot down a passenger airline

US didn't have a bunch of their people protesting the act.

....they did apologize a few months after the fact though.
