Title: Ohio GOP: Funding for classification, not merit

Quote
Mike Gonadakis, president of Ohio Right to Life, said his group has worked with legislators to eliminate or minimize unintended consequences from the bill. He said it simply is an effort to show that Ohio prefers childbirth over abortion and that the money should go to where the vast majority of women get services. He said even after the changes, there will be no part of the state where women couldn't get services.

Mason disagreed with that premise. While people in Newark and Lancaster might have other options, she said choices for those in Zanesville or Perry County are far more limited. Most distressing to her was the law eliminates a system that forces all organizations to compete with each other based on merit for the state grants. She said she understands her funding might be gone if another group finds a way to provide services better, but the new system would favor groups based on their classifications, not their merit.

So basically the GOP is okay with women not being able to get cancer screenings if it means saving the fetuses.
