Title: Duck Dynasty Dudes Say n' Do Th' Ding Dang Darndest Thangs. Quack.
Post by: Witchyjoshy on December 19, 2013, 04:15:30 pm
http://tv.yahoo.com/news/duck-dynasty-star-suspended-anti-gay-comments-004857988.html

Quote
A+E Networks said that Phil Robertson has been put on an indefinite hiatus from his hit reality series for anti-gay remarks he made in the January issue of GQ magazine, which became available today.  This comes as Season 5 of the series is set to debut January 15. We’re hearing that the show isn’t shooting right now, and there are episodes in the can that Robertson will be in. But he will not be a part of the production when filming resumes. “We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty”, the network group said in a statement just now. ”His personal views in no way reflect those of A+E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community. The network has placed Phil under hiatus from filming indefinitely.”

...

In today’s GQ article profiling the family behind the reality hit, Robertson — who in the story described his family as “Bible-thumpers who just happened to end up on television” — sounded off on among other things homosexuality, calling it a sin. “It seems like, to me, a vagina — as a man — would be more desirable than a man’s anus. That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.” Later, when asked what is sinful, he replied: “Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.”

Yep, I just got compared to someone who fucks animals.  And not even because I'm a furry.

Quote
The comments quickly drew the ire of gay-rights groups like GLAAD. ”Phil and his family claim to be Christian, but Phil’s lies about an entire community fly in the face of what true Christians believe,” said GLAAD spokesperson Wilson Cruz.

...How about no.

And of course, Sarah Palin jumped at the opportunity to defend him.

Quote
Duck Dynasty fan Sarah Palin has taken to social media to voice her support for Phil Robertson, saying that his suspension is an attack on free speech. “Free speech is an endangered species,” she wrote on Facebook. “Those ‘intolerants’ hatin’ and taking on the Duck Dynasty patriarch for voicing his personal opinion are taking on all of us.” And Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal also added his voice.

Okay, here's the thing.

A&E is a private organization.  That means they have the right to censor whoever and whatever they want on their channel, because it's their channel.

And with that, I must say that I'm happy about this because I AM SICK TO FUCKING DEATH OF DUCK DYNASTY SHIT BEING PLASTERED EVERYWHERE I GO!

Yeah, I'm getting posts on my FB, defending him and his "1st amendment rights."  I mentioned A&E had the right to suspend him just like a counter clerk in a store's boss has the right to fire said clerk for cursing out a customer.

Any Jesus among them? None. Communists? None. Islamists? Zero. That’s eighty years of ideologies that have popped up where no Jesus was allowed among those four groups. Just look at the records as far as murder goes among those four groups.

I'm sure the Nazis and Muslims would be really surprised to find out that they didn't have Jesus. Most Nazis were Christian and used Christianity to appeal to the masses, and Muslims see Jesus as a prophet and even believe in his second coming.

Ironbite-though now watch all the Duck Dynasty stuff fly off the shelves just in time for Christmas.

I think that as long as it was unspoken, A&E was alright with it, but the moment it became blatant they had to.

I hope this trend of UnReality TV Hillbilly-fests plays itself out soon!

They seem to go in these weird trends until they play out.....gazillions of offspring, nasty bimbos being nasty, stupid dating contests, etc. The latest seems to be "Weird Backwoods People".

I'm not insulting rural people, mind you, I'm just saying you have all these shows showing the most stereotypical.

I think the Duck dorks may have topped themselves, now......
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/12/19/phil-robertson-black-people_n_4473474.html
....I figure since they know their time has passed, they have nothing to lose! There's just gonna let the hateful stupid just aaaaalllllll haaaaaang ouuuuut!

I wish that cable stations would just stick their their intended subject matters! What's the point of having all these specialized channels if you can't stick to the subject matter?

IT SHOULD BE:

The Learning Channel - Learning & Education
The Discovery Channel - Science
The History Channel - History
MTV & VH1 - Music & Music Videos

...and so on....STICK WITH YOUR STINKIN' PRE-PLANNED NICHE! If you're so obsessed with ratings, make your shows more interesting, rather than distorting, dumbing down or rejecting the subject, altogether!

They say, "But it's what the people want!". No, it's what a few Nielsen families want & the corporate grand poobahs apparently hand-pick dopey families with crappy, dumbed-down tastes! They want a dumbed-down America!

Not to mention, Japan has historically had a pretty decent Christian following ever since first contact with Europeans (the Portuguese in particular). In fact, one of the biggest reasons why Japan went ultra-isolationist during the Tokugawa period was to keep Christianity and with it European influence in check.

Sadly yes.

The good thing about this is that, despite populations being foolish, the more hypocritical the Republicans act, the more often people are going to notice it.  Effectively, they're damning themselves to obscurity via political attrition.

Of course, the pendulum will eventually swing back in favor of them via the nature of populations to forget, but there's very little you can do about that without mind control and brainwashing - which are highly unethical measures.

On Friday, GOP congressional candidate Ian Bayne went all in, comparing Robertson to civil rights icon Rosa Parks.

. . .

"In December 1955, Rosa Parks took a stand against an unjust societal persecution of black people, and in December 2013, Robertson took a stand against persecution of Christians," Bayne said in an email to supporters.

"What Parks did was courageous," he added. "What Mr. Robertson did was courageous too."

There is a video remerging of a 2010 (I think) sermon Robertson made making impassioned speeches about how they're "finding new ways to do evil!"  Also, it's not just gays:

Quote
I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I'm with the blacks, because we're white trash. We're going across the field. ... They're singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, 'I tell you what: These doggone white people' -- not a word!... Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.

This was his comment about the Jim Crow era south.

I bet A&E will put the duck dude back on air eventually anyways, it's kinda like Dog the Bounty Hunter. that guy screamed some pretty racist shit to his son over the phone, when that audio got leaked there was a shitstorm and he was suspended. But the company isn't going to let go their golden goose so they'll wait a while then put him back. A&E couldn't really care less if he is a homophobe, a racist, or a card carrying member of the Nazi Party, they just want the benjamins.

I'm starting to put half my FB friends on ignore because every other person is bitching about poor Phil Robertson and the fact that, "he only expressed his opinion."  Give me a fucking break.  If he had "expressed" his opinion by saying old people should just up and die or women belong in the kitchen, I bet those same people wouldn't as quick to defend his "opinion."  But gays apparently are acceptable targets.

Not to mention the idiots saying it'd be no different if he were praising gays.  No, shitheads, there's a big difference between showing empathy for a group that's been treated like crap for decades in our country and blasting them.

Anyone who defends dumb-fucks like Robertson but would blast him if he had gone off on women, old people, etc. are nothing but a bunch of hypocritical, homophobic asshholes!*

*That's just my "opinion," without help from any so-called Good Book.

I can't find the trace of any large, organized effort to get Phil Robertson fired from his shitty reality TV show. Public outrage about his statement? Yes, some of that. "Homosexual agenda" advocates mobilizing massively with the set goal of getting this specific, comparatively mild homophobe fired? No way. GLAAD did issue a statement that might be interpreted as this, but it was obviously intended as a call for sponsors to boycott the series - to starve the beast rather than silence it outright. In any case, GLAAD is generally known to be an ineffective, overreactive watchdog. Anyone who believes they can get a public personnality fired simply by barking a bit is seriously deluded.

Of course, even if it was true, it still wouldn't be an attack on free speech any more than the incessant protests of right-wing lobbies to the depiction of anything that doesn't fit their worldview. On the other hand, it's always a dick move for someone to be fired for something that isn't a crime and doesn't have anything to do with their job performance... and it appears to me that the LGBT community is being deliberatly misblamed for that dick move.

But we can't let the truth get in the way of a cynical publicity stunt, can we? Especially when it's working so well as a rallying cry for the bigoted, hateful and paranoid.

Oh let's make it better.

Source: http://www.bizpacreview.com/2013/12/27/senator-introduces-legislation-to-hail-phil-robertson-a-hero-90660

Quote
When the Alabamalegislature convenes again after the New Year, one conservative lawmaker will go above and beyond offering verbal support of “Duck Dynasty” star Phil Robertson – he will introduce a Senate resolution saying Robertson “should be celebrated as a hero.”
Republican state Senator Jerry Fielding announced his planned resolution in a press release obtained by The Daily Home on Monday.
“Phil Robertson’s family values are shared by the vast majority of Alabamians, who are rightfully concerned by the vitriol aimed at his Christian stance,” Fielding wrote, according to the paper.
“There’s a clear double standard in the media favoring a liberal worldview. When it’s used to silence and punish Christians for stating their beliefs, that’s when we must defend the rights of individuals to exercise their free speech without fear of politically-motivated repercussion. I join thousands across Alabama and our country by standing with Phil Robertson, and urge A&E to reverse their action against him.”
According to The Daily Home that published the relevant section of the resolution, which urges “united support” of Robertson and his family and condemnation of A&E’s “deplorable action of suspending Phil…for relaying his Christian beliefs:”

Ironbite-this moron is aware that other people who don't share his religious beliefs can vote right?

Compare gays to pigfuckers and terrorists?  Say black people had it good in the slavery era?  The Republican party will hail you as a hero and/or a martyr.

And they wonder why we call them racists.

This really shouldn't be surprising to anyone. Hell, I'll bet the controversy surrounding Robertson's comments brought quite a bit of publicity to Duck Dynasty and I'm pretty a lot of people didn't know what the show was about or even that it existed before the controversy. I know I didn't. A & E is loving the publicity, no doubt.

On another note, the controversy has made me aware of a troublesome issue in our society. The Governors of our States have so much free time on their hands that they're jumping to the defense of a pseudo-celebrity from a reality tv show most people likely never heard of before the controversy.

Well, the Governor of Louisiana has that much time on his hands at least.

The next season has already been filmed anyway, so axing him would have required a lot of editing.

Freedom of speech says the government can't shut you up or fine or arrest you for saying homophobic shit. It doesn't mean you're free from someone else criticizing you.

Also, I heard someone mention Larry the Cable Guy. At least he doesn't spout homophobic shit especially considering it's all an act.

Yeah, it's easy to say that when you live in Australia :P

Here?  There's Duck Dynasty merchandise EVERYWHERE.  And people are buying it.  That means that a significant portion of the populace around me listens to those outdated ideas and probably AGREES with them.

And by merchandise I mean MERCHANDISE.  T-shirts for adult men, adult women, little boys, little girls, mugs, bath puffs, toys, ladies' underwear, Christmas decorations, Halloween decorations, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.

It's ridiculous.  Duck Dynasty managed to out-obnoxious Twilight, Justin Bieber, and One Direction COMBINED.

At least here.  Maybe in larger cities, I dunno.

This one does anyway.  Which is why I've never watched Duck Dynasty.

However, Dan Whitney's 'Larry the Cable Guy' I kind of view akin to the late Jim Varney's 'Ernest P. Worrel':  Just a character that he became very successful with.

Customer reviews on Cabela's give mixed, semi good reviews. They are real calls, but looks like they are inconsistently made, and not field weather hardy.

However, Dan Whitney's 'Larry the Cable Guy' I kind of view akin to the late Jim Varney's 'Ernest P. Worrel':  Just a character that he became very successful with.

Plus, Larry always seemed somewhat apolitical & I knew he was just a character for years. I remember watching his peer in "Blue Collar Comedy",  Jeff Foxworthy, and thought he was hilarious. I never watched Larry's standup but he always seemed rather fun & amusing when he's on TV.

On the other hand, the Duck guys are a bunch of prettyboy yuppies who decided to dress up as smelly backwoods hairballs with ZZ Top beards & pass it all off as real!

When you consider the Duck boy's pampered yuppieness, Robertson's bigoted statements about black people are even more egregious! There's no way a white yuppie worked alongside blacks in cotton fields in the pre-Civil Rights era. Judging by the pre-Duck Dynasty yuppie photo, he probably wasn't born yet! The beard just makes him LOOK old.

One of my favorite moments in Stuart Ashen's videos was his extended food special with Dan, where they made Larry the Cable Guy Beer Bread. They spent at least 5 minutes examining the box, trying to figure out American redneck culture and whether or not Larry the Cable Guy was a fictional character.
