Ender's Game was a great book, though. Death of the author means I don't give a shit if Card went off the deep end after he wrote it; the book stands on its own merits.

There might be more to the story. According to this article, the reason he was put on leave was not the book but rather:

Concerns about McLaw were raised after he sent a four-page letter to officials in Dorchester County. Those concerns brought together authorities from multiple jurisdictions, including health authorities.

McLaw's attorney, David Moore, tells The Times that his client was taken in for a mental health evaluation. "He is receiving treatment," Moore said.

No idea what was in that letter, but hopefully it's something more substantial than "he wrote a book where a school shooting happened".
