I'm the Venerable One.

Hell, I was 20 only last week, it feels like.

Would you damn kids get off my thread.

Yes, my thread. This crusty old fucker is claiming it and it's going to take something along the lines of a viking to out-rank me.

At least I'm old enough to buy beer.

I usually don't, but still...

I've been drinking alcohol since I was in the single digits in age, so... meh.  21 meant nothing to me except I could be public with it. :p

I never cease to find it extremely weird that 18-year-old Americans are old enough to vote and join the army, but not buy beer.

Agreed. It's a whole big thing that involved the nation holding states ransom for it.

Pretty much. They slipped the law into a different bill, denying highway maintenance funding to any states that didn't raise their drinking age.

It's done absolutely nothing to prevent problems from drunk youths. If anything, all it's done is increase the number of arrests for underage drinking.

I think that, from now on, if a Christian gets uppity and asks if I know Stalin was an atheist (or something relating to that train of thought), that I'm going to say he had the right idea for dealing with Christianity, just to see what kind of reaction that gets. Saying that I'd (re)convert to Catholicism to honor Hitler also seems like a fun way to push buttons.

I drank a respectable amount as a teenager. Then when I turned 18, I slowed down and eventually stopped entirely.

Fuck the police.

Fun times.

Although, ironically enough, I just realised that here you can also vote before you can legally buy alcohol. Not because we raised the drinking age, but because we lowered the voting age to 16.

Letting 16-year-olds vote sounds like a horrible idea.

To be honest, I don't really see how it's any worse than completely uninformed dumbasses who know nothing about candidates/parties voting. It'll be the same with 16-year-olds as with adults: you'll have the teenagers who are informed and are into politics voting responsibly, you'll have teenagers who just don't care, and you'll have the uninformed dumbasses.

We need to work on artificial intelligence so we can put machines in charge. Humans cannot be trusted to govern each other.
