Basically, what's going on is the RCC is bringing a petition to oppose gay marriage to UK public schools (6th-12th grade), in an attempt to
indoctrinate a new generation of assholes protect the sanctity of marriage.
The Roman Catholic church has written to every state-funded Catholic secondary school in England and Wales asking them to encourage pupils to sign a petition against gay marriage…The Catholic Education Service, which acts for Catholic bishops in England and Wales, contacted 385 secondary schools to highlight a letter read in parish churches last month, in which two archbishops told worshippers that Catholics have a “duty to do all we can to ensure that the true meaning of marriage is not lost for future generations”.
Seems they aren't content to simply be those annoying people heckling everyone on the street corner. They have to go right to the kids in public schools to ensure that their hatred doesn't die out. Fortunately, most of these kids aren't buying it.
A pupil at St Philomena’s Catholic high school for girls in Carshalton, in the south London borough of Sutton, told the website PinkNews.co.uk that children aged 11 to 18 had been encouraged to sign the anti-equality pledge by their headteacher.
She said: “In our assembly for the whole sixth form you could feel people bristling as she explained parts of the letter and encouraged us to sign the petition. It was just a really outdated, misjudged and heavily biased presentation.”
She said some pupils had responded by buying Gay Pride badges to pin to their uniforms.
I hate the RCC more than any other organization on the planet, I make no secret of this, and seeing these kids stand up to their crap makes me smile. It's so nice to know that their hatred isn't making it's way into these kids' heads. Hell, this may be the generation that finally kills it.

Since when do kids' signatures on petitions even matter in the first place?

Well it is the UK. Maybe they do things differently over there...

In the UK their attitude toward Church and State is absolutely correct. They do not belong together and have not done so since King Charles II ascended to the throne.
For too long, the Church has ruled the State, albeit covertly.
In Europe, no Monarch can be installed without the "blessing" of the Church, indeed the worst (British) monarch of all time - John, of Robin Hood times, recieved the full backing of the RCC. Since then there will never be another King John in the UK.
Back to topic.... The RCC has NO say in running the UK but is advocating a campaign against "the rise of militant secularism" at the behest of the current parasite pope.
Being a WW2 veteran fighting with the Czech resistance, I know only too well how the RCC supported the Nazis, especially in Poland and Yugoslavia.
In the case of Yugoslavia, the Pope actually blessed the Nazis for "converting" the Eastern Christians (those that survived) to Catholicism.
Some people need something to relate to, I have no qualms about that, but to terrorize, torture and butcher so that one must follow the "one true" is a scourge that must be eliminated from the civilised world.
Rant over.

Catholic education is a big part of the reason there are so many atheists in the UK. I know this first hand. And to be honest, I applaud their latest feet-first slide towards proving their irrelevance to a new generation. Hell, it's even happening over the water in Ireland - IRELAND! - of all places as well.

I should ask my brother if my former school is doing this. If I was still at school I'd probably try and raise hell over it.

I'll be happy to say that Pope Benedict XVI aka "Pope Ratzinger" aka "Pope Palpatine" aka "Benny The Rat", will be the Pope that KILLS the Roman Catholic Church!
I used to like Catholicism....it was somewhat more moderate back when I was younger. I never put it in the same category as "Crazy Fundie Holy Roller Church". It was respectable, mainstream, ecumenical & somewhat charitable...even if it was still backwards in some areas. The religious/ritual aspects are quite nice....The Rosary, Chaplets, Novenas, Sacraments, The Mass, The Music, The Art, The Mysticism, Mother Mary, Angels, Saints, etc.
I realize now that the Catholic Church I knew was due to Vatican 2...where the Church tried to make an effort to change & adapt to the modern era.
Then the 90's came along & the "atomic-powered el stupido" began to creep in.
Then ol' Palpatine was elected & it is now a Fundie Hell!
And don't get me started on their handling of the "Pedo Priest" thing!
IMHO, if people wish to practice the Catholic Faith, they should just ditch the Roman Church & switch to the more Progressive of the splinter churches (yes, they are out there) OR become Anglican/Episcopalian.

Congrats Popeltine...you've succeed in doing the one thing nobody else can do.
Ironbite-Kill the RCC.

You know what the Catholic Church could use right about now? An antipope.

They are becoming more and more hysterical.

You can almost just sit back and watch as they embarrass themselves.

Wow, is everything the RCC doing part of some crazy master plan to actually make everyone HATE them?

Since when do kids' signatures on petitions even matter in the first place?
Sine when have petitions mattered at all?

When properly organizaed, and filed, and in enough numbers, petitions can influence groups and people reliant on public support. The important part is showing that this will affect sales or support in an effective way.
Like I tell people at work: if you want one of our store policies to change, get enough people to send messages to corporate. If they see a benefit to the change, but way of sales, they will likely implement it.

Didn't that just get resurrected under another name?

*sighs* Seriously?
Does the Catholic church have no shame?...
Stupid question, huh?
