In Judge Clarke’s courtroom, there is one very important rule; absolutely no cell phone commotion. All mobile devices MUST be put on silent and put away while court is in session. Failure to do so could mean the offender is found in contempt of court and would be forced to pay a fine. That fine was in fact paid this week, when the Lansing District judge's own cell phone went off during a sentencing hearing. In violation of his own rule, Clarke promptly found himself in contempt of court and fined himself $50, paying the money to the clerk directly. “Why would I treat myself any different?” Clarke, who has served on the 54A District Court since 2010, told the Lansing State Journal. “That would make me a hypocrite.”
It doesn't concern you, Sister, that kind of absolutist view of the universe? Right and wrong determined solely by a single all-knowing, all powerful being whose judgment cannot be questioned and in whose name the most horrendous acts can be sanctioned without appeal?
Being required by someone else’s religious beliefs to behave contrary to one’s sexual identity is degrading and disrespectful.

Some of you seem to be arguing that the no-phones rule is arbitrary. I'm not even sure that his rule is even that ridiculous.10/10 for consistency, too. Hopefully he always issues small fines.
