A part of me wishes that I could get a custom made sword.

Or a replica of the Sword of Truth. I know a lot of people don't like those books for the Randian politics but they kinda helped me and my mental state while I was reading them...

*peeks into thread*

*sees glorious swords*

I'll be in my bunk.

...Also, I have a Scottish dirk that my boyfriend won for me in a raffle.  I'll need to take photos for the thread. :3

Samurai sword-wielding Mormon bishop comes to aid of woman being attacked

Quote
A Samurai sword-wielding Mormon bishop helped a neighbor woman escape a Tuesday morning attack by a man who had been stalking her.

Kent Hendrix woke up Tuesday to his teenage son pounding on his bedroom door and telling him somebody was being mugged in front of their house. The 47-year-old father of six rushed out the door and grabbed the weapon closest to him -- a 29-inch high carbon steel Samurai sword.

The mugger ran and got away, but turned himself into police an hour later.

I'm glad we have sword owners here. I'm interested in them, but since I'm so easily impressed, cutlasses are my favorite kind.

It's kind of odd, but everyone in town seems to own a machete either as part of their home defense arsenal, or for venturing through the thick brush around here. My family doesn't own one, but my grandmother has an extremely blunt one. She also has what looks like a sabre, but it's in deplorable condition. It has a fine coat of rust on it, and it's a really annoying shade of orange now. I don't even know how you can neglect a fucking sword like that to that point. Although it floods a lot around their home, and I assume it spent a lot of time underwater.

Let me see if I can find my old katana from a sword class at the old dojo. I was a kid, so the sword was changed to my proportions at the time. It's not sharpened, but I've tested it on some solid wood chopping and it won't break under stress.
Still can't think of a signature a year later.

Okay, dragged it out of the closet (it was under my airsoft gear) and took some pics.

I wish I could contribute something of worth to the thread, but...

I have a shitty little shortsword with decorations that have long since fallen off due to being stickers, and was most certainly made in a mold.

A shitty katana that feels like any significant swing would send the blade flying out of the hilt.

And a nice athame that is short but otherwise well made.

My sword's not sharpened, to the point where you'd need to TRY to cut yourself with it, but it's solid. It can't exactly chop through a fence post, but it doesn't fall apart on an impact. And the tip is definitely sharp enough that it's a serious hazard to anyone careless with it.

The worst sword I've ever seen was a full size katana (probably a department store one) owned by a kid a few years younger than me in high school, an amateur traceur who tried to act like a ninja during boffer combat games. It was way heavier than it should have been and the blade and hilt were so badly fitted that it rattled when you swung it. Some of my friends at the time actually tried to break it when he wasn't home just so he'd get rid of it.

I head to www.woodenswords.com for my practice blades.
There is light and darkness in the world, to be sure.  However, there's no harm to be had in walking in the shade or shadows.

I got my Celtic short sword from Strongblade. I like them.

I forget where I got my Gladius but I got my Centurion from Swords of Might tho I don't really recommend them.

I have heard good things about Kult of Athena

Also, there's a good Sword Buyer's Guide.

My celtic short sword on its own.

I have heard good things about Kult of Athena
Kult of Athena sells stuff from a lot of different manufacturers. Some of it's functional, some not, but they're pretty good about letting you know which is which. Their prices are good and I hear their customer service is excellent.

Indeed. My favorite part is that they have them categorized and it's easy to narrow things down to location, age, and type (battle-ready, stage-ready, etc.,)

I head to www.woodenswords.com for my practice blades.

You practice with a wooden sword?  Why not practice with the weapon you're going to use?
