Guy declared dead, turns up alive, is still dead

Quote
An Ohio man is finding out there's no easy way to come back from the dead.

Donald Miller Jr. went to court this week to ask a county judge to reverse a 1994 ruling that declared him legally dead after he had disappeared from his home eight years earlier. But the judge turned down his request, citing a three-year time limit for changing a death ruling.

Yeah. So I wonder what being legally dead means for things like tax obligations. Do zombies have to pay income tax?

It doesn't concern you, Sister, that kind of absolutist view of the universe? Right and wrong determined solely by a single all-knowing, all powerful being whose judgment cannot be questioned and in whose name the most horrendous acts can be sanctioned without appeal?

Quote from: Supreme Court of Canada
Being required by someone else’s religious beliefs to behave contrary to one’s sexual identity is degrading and disrespectful.

At least the judge didn't get someone to hit the guy over the head after ignoring his protests of still being alive.

Well from a tax perspective its great, from a day to day living perspective its a bit more troublesome. Its really hard to apply for say a job or a bank account when you are legally dead.

It is actually pretty amazing how the legal definition of your status with regards to the state defines your day to day life. As someone who is currently fighting to get my legal status changed it is a nightmare.

It shouldn't.  His "widow" would then owe hundreds of thousands of dollars back to the state as she's been claiming death benifits from Social Security in order to keep her kids afloat.

Ironbite-dude's dead and the statue has expired...that's that.

Yeah, he's been surviving off the grid, and off the grid he will stay. No good reason to "correct" this since it only hurts his innocent wife and family. Now, if someday cash currency is phased out, he'll be fucked, but I doubt he'll still be alive by then...teehee.

Interesting. What happens if he commits a crime? Can you convict a dead man?

Maybe he should just to another country & start over with a new name & stuff. Correcting the issue would hurt his family.

This raises a TON of weird, potentially disturbing implications.

What happens if he has another kid with his wife? Is she legally a Truly Single Parent? If she died but the man and the kid were still alive, would the kid legally be an orphan?
I once had a nightmare about chickens pecking me to death on my driveway. I told my sister to save herself.

This is the #1 nightmare.

The article seems to indicate that he and his wife were already estranged before his disappearance. I doubt she'd be in any mindset to have another child with him.
That may be the single gayest thing I have ever read on this board. Or the old one. ;)

He's 66, and most likely his wife is that age or at least post menopause.
