You know, I find it a bit amusing whenever people say that legalizing same-sex marriage is "entering the 21st century", considering that, at the start of the year 2001, no jurisdiction in the world had legal same-sex marriage. (A number of places had some sort of same-sex unions, and Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands had signed a bill legalizing same-sex marriage there, but that law did not come into effect until April 1, 2001.)
Also, places like Florida aren't so much legalizing same-sex marriage as they are being dragged kicking and screaming into having it be legal by judges applying a Supreme Court ruling that the guy who wrote the ruling said couldn't be used to legalize same-sex marriage (though Scalia pointed out that it would be anyway).
