In science class, we have had to work on a project where we give a presentation on a certain type of animal. The presentation has to be rather in-depth, as the requirements include number of chromosomes, ecology, phylogeny, etc. If you met all the basic requirements, then you could choose two of six other facts to add to your presentation for extra credit. Since I completed all the basic requirements, I did two. When all the presentation were finished, the class would vote on which animal was the most interesting, and the person who won would get even more extra credit. Everyone was on some sort of tropical biome/marsupial kick, so I decided to do something different. I gave a presentation on the narwhal.
The animals presented were (yes I wrote them all down):
- Red kangaroo (Macropus rufus)
- Goodfellow's tree kangaroo (Dendrolagus goodfellowi)
- Aye-aye (Daubentonia madagascariensis)
- Lionfish (Pterois volitans)
- Philippine tarsier (Carlito syrichta)
- Blue-footed booby (Sula nebouxii)
- Broadclub cuttlefish (Sepia latimamus)
- Grizzly bear (Ursus arctos horriblis)
- Koala (Phascolarctos cinereus)
- Eastern Quoll (Dasyurnus viverrinus)
- Narwhal (Monodon monoceros)
- Mountain tapir (Tapirus pinchaque)
- Killer whale (Orcinus orca)
- Keel-billed toucan (Ramphastos sulfuratus)
- Two-toed sloth (Choloepus hoffmani)
The finalists were:
- Goodfellow's tree kangaroo
- Aye-aye
- Blue-footed booby
- Broadclub cuttlefish
- Grizzly bear
- Narwhal
- Two-toed sloth
Which was then narrowed down to the narwhal vs. the grizzly bear, and my narwhal won in a landslide vote.
So now I have super-extra-credit, which will really boost my grade. I'm especially happy about this because I've been struggling to maintain a B in that class all year.
