I don't think it's necessarily that she's "girly" that feminists take offense at, it's that she has impossible proportions and has clothing of such quality that the average person couldn't possibly afford for themselves.
That's understandable. That said, as a character, I see her as fairly progressive. Sadly, Mattel seems to be emphasizing "Fairy Tale Princess Barbie" more than usual. I want more of Astronaut/Doctor/POTUS Candidate/Cowgirl/etc. Barbie! Sure, I like fairies & sparkly fantasy stuff but I like Barbie being independent with a career.
I have to admit regarding the "Fairy Tale Princess" stuff, I actually kinda envied that about "girl toys" growing up. Boy toys were, at the time, mostly army G.I. Joe stuff.
And I...
hateG.I.Joe.
Always have. I never watched that shit growing up. Hell, I barely watched Transformers (though when Beast Wars started, I watched it as much as I could)
Heck, I even watched the original My Little Pony cartoon as a kid. I was a brony before it was cool. *adjusts hipster glasses.*
