I carry a knife and pepper spray.   First thing I usually grab for is the pepper spray, because... well...  ranged beats melee.  Also, I don't particularly want to kill anyone when they could be alive to face justice.

Would have a stun gun, but you really have to get close to use them... at least the ones I know about.

Usually I'm not armed when I go out, but if I'm going to be in an iffy area, it's better to be safe than sorry.

I keep meaning to get a self-defense keychain alarm but for now I just use SafeTrek. I haven't needed it so far (knock on wood), but having it helps.

When you say knife, you don't mean a small pocket knife do you? Because I usually carry a small (3") pocket knife. Not for defense but because sometimes its handy to be able to open stuff or trim stuff down. Or cut the top off a water bottle for my dog.

And since I'm here, whenever people hear I don't have a facebook or any social media pages, the reactions tend to run either disbelief, shock, or pity.
