So is "Sharia" analogous to "Allah" in it's usage?  I know people often associate it with Islam, but I'm just a bit curious now.

Sharia laws are islamic laws. Basically it means making laws based on quran and other religious writing. Those laws are very hostile to those who aren't muslims and things like converting to other religion are punishable by death.

I certainly wouldn't want to live in a country with Sharia laws in place, but it is funny that many christian fundies are basically screaming warnings about sharia law while at the same time demanding laws based on bible...
No matter what happens, no matter what my last words may end up being, I want everyone to claim that they were:

Oh wow...I don't even...where do I start? Oh, they're numbered, I guess that helps.

1. No abortions. They're just packaging it with the disabled, the old, & the poor to make it sound like it's about you. It's not. It's about the fetuses.  As much as they try to pander to this idea of gender equality, they don't even feel pregnant women are worth mentioning next to the fetuses, the poor, & the elderly.

2. Even if you don't care about gay issues, that "sole basis of the family" thing is rather concerning. What does that mean for single parent adoption? Widows?

3. No child abuse laws or standardized education.

4. Probably special privelages for Christianity.

5. ...Because of this. Anything that's not "decent" & "traditionally moral" is not covered up there. This doesn't just mean I can arrest my neighbor for looking at internet porn, it means anything "obscene" is banned. Wicca? Islam? Atheism? Might as well forget about it all.

6. I have absolute control of my property & I'll pay lip service to the environment. Won't actually do anything, but I acknowledge its importance.

7. I like how the second ammendment is the least changed. Though that "right to use as necessary" bit worries me.

8. Hah, they aren't even trying to hide their intentions, they want to overthrow the law.

9. Wait, so...I can do shit in OTHER COUNTRIES & they have NO authority? How do you even think you can enforce this? Even if you do manage to force this on America, that doesn't mean Europe "agrees" to it!

10. A fair tax system is defined as one where you get breaks if you fit the legal definition of the family, & furthermore what you DO pay is not at all scaled to your income.

So, to recap, after being taken from your single parent & placed in an abusive home the government has no authority over, you'll be taxed to the point where you can't afford the illigitimate child you were forced to carry, as an outed atheist you can't marry, as that would be obscene, but you can at least move to another country so they won't shoot you, until they use their unlimited foreign influence to hunt you down.

Alright, I was being a little ridiculous in that last paragraph, but you get my point.

Liberty Council. Heh. Still cracks me up. :D

Yep, liberty for white, rich Anglo-Saxon Protestants to own the means of production and keep non-whites, women and LGBTQ people as second class citizens. Nothing new here.

[fundie]
Laws must be in the name of Jesus to be good.  If the exact same laws in the name of Allah, they are bad.  If they are not done in the name of any god, they automatically belong to Satan and Darwin, so they are bad.  Because that's what Hitler and Stalin did.

What would be really funny - convince the religious right wingers to push through an amendment that "No religious law" can supercede American law.  Make them think it's all aimed at Sharia law.
Then watch their heads explode as all the 10 commandment statues etc are forcibly removed from every court room and government building in the country.

We already have that.  It's called the first amendment.

Of course, we all know how well fundies understand that.

Why do all of these conservative Christians make these lists of values or morals or what-have-you and always, ALWAYS eventually stick in the right to own and use guns. I can see how you would look at the teachings of Christ and get a "life begins at conception" attitude, or a "marriage is a sacrament" thing, or even a "we should be allowed to put a Nativity Scene in a public park" thing....but how in the hell do you interpret the philosophy of Jesus of Nazareth to read "I should be allowed to own and use deadly weapons?"

The other things that struck me in their asinine "Declaration" is how they sneaked in that a flat tax and an anti-UN stance are part of "American values."
