She's a singer.  It's practically required for her to have some weird spelling- or punctuation-related quirk.  Like Ludacriss.

But the weird spelling is usually at least phonetic.

And M.I.A. is a fairly well known abbreviation pronounced by letter to begin with. So so insisting on pronouncing it like Mya will just confuse people who are more accustomed to discussing people who are “Missing in Action.”
