Title: Close encounters of the fundie kind
Post by: lighthorseman on January 21, 2012, 12:31:16 am
At the airport, picking up my daughter, and a bunch of kids just swarmed by. All wearing "survivor" style t-shirts, which, on closer inspection, were for something called "the Lord's bootcamp". Sounds awful! Can you imagine anything worse thana survival course themed Bible camp?

Sounds like the setting for a very cliched (don't know if i am spelling that right) horror movie like Sleepaway Camp or Friday the 13th.

You can google lord's boot camp, the results are scarier than any slasher movie.

*chuckles softly* Remember the big twist of The Crying Game?  Sleepaway Camp did it first. :P

And did it better.

Ironbite-also the lead singer of CKY is now married to the lead actress of Sleepaway Camp.

I think there's this camp for kids that has been investigated on multiple occasions for abuse. I'll have to look it up, but basically some of the activities include:
1) Being forced to roll down a hill until you vomit
2) Eating nothing but dog food
3) Getting called a loser for wanting to drop out
4) No medical attention for injuries sustained

So its like one of those camps where they sent gay kids to to turn them straight again if so let me say this ah hem "how dare you how dare all of you!" if its not my words still stand due to the list Wykked gave us.

It's not necessarily just for gay kids, but for kids in general who feel (or whose parents feel) that they have to "toughen up."

Reminds me of "The Lord's Ranch," a nice little, Christian place my cousin was forced to stay at for...a few years, if I remember correctly.  You can be taken there against your will, soooo...yeah.  Big points off there.

Oh, enjoy the comments here. (http://www.topix.com/forum/city/paragould-ar/TDOACBEOQP5VGMSO7/p3)  I can say, based on my cousin's (at the time) fairly reliable testimony that the fucks there are brutal and abusive.  Going there made her suicidal, so yeah...fuck them and all their ilk in the ass with Satan's red hot poker.

*Oogh* We've cone from "Close Encounters..." to "Night of the Living..."

You'd think "Bible Based" summer camps would be fun affairs with the usual summer camp activities: Canoeing, hiking, campfires, arts & crafts, y'know, fun outdoorsy stuff...but with Sunday schoolish stuff thrown in.

But those are for normal HUMAN Christians, not Holy Roller Extremeist Fundie INHUMAN "TrueChristianTM" maniacs.

THAT'S NOT A KID'S SUMMER CAMP! THAT'S A FASCIST RE-EDUCATION CONCENTRATION CAMP/GULAG DISGUISED AS A KID'S SUMMER CAMP!

That's basically what I went to as a kid.  We had the usual activities, which were a lot of fun, plus some various lectures and entertainments designed to make us good little Christians (like Gilligan's Island-based plays where they're eventually rescued by Jesus).  I remember getting angry at a lecture where they tried to convince us that dinosaurs lived in recently, and that there was no such thing as "millions of years ago."  I was a dinosaur nut, and I knew that was wrong.
