here's an idea: using the dungeons and dragons alignment system available here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alignment_(Dungeons_%26_Dragons)), name a poster of your choice and their alignment.
i don't want this to degenerate into a free for all, so please state your reasons, and the no bitching rule is in full effect. basically, based on the poster's previous messages, evaluate their alignment using wikipedia's guidelines.
(mods, please feel free to nail this game if you feel it'll become a bitchfest)
i'll start it off with naming PostHumanHeresy as Chaotic Neutral, since he's pretty consistent in calling for freedom on most things, even reprehensible ones, although the discussion about his views on Anonymous nailed it for me. not a bad guy, just very strict on freedom.
remember, it's a game, no sore losers, no bitching, just good, clean fun :)

Sounds interesting. I wouldn't worry about someone taking things personally. Everyone's got a bit o' bad in them, after all. ;)

Completely agreed. ^_^
Ironbite: Chaotic Good. Sure, he's definitely not going to go about anything the traditional, normal or altogether sane way, but he's definitely not evil, for all his colony dropping and pants theft.

Sigma is Lawful Neutral. He wants what's best for the forums and enforces fair rules, while still willing to step back and let us figure things out for ourselves.
-
Am I allowed to give myself an alignment?
If so, Chaotic Neutral. And why? I'd say for the same reasons PostHumanHersey is listed as such. That I'm so infatuated with free-will that I would even go far to promoting ideas some would consider "reprehensible" in the name of civil liberty. And of course, the trade off of free-will, being that sometimes I'll act like an jackass in the eyes of others, like send $250 to Planned Parenthood when I'm expected to save money to help someone's house payment (Oh, wait. This actually happened in real life, but I was lucky I still had the money expected to help an house payment).
-
Can we ask for an assessment? I'm very curious how you guys see me.
-
Chaotic good.
-
@Nicki: If I had to guess, I'd say Chaotic Good. Based mostly on the fact that you apparently enjoy seeing Evil people get slapped.
ETA: (I actually wrote this before Ironbite posted)

I used to be True Neutral, then the power got to my head.
-
I'm gonna go with Chaotic Good for Mira and Queen, and Chaotic Neutral for Lithp.
-
I don't think I have enough of a personality here to have an alignment. ;p
-
I would say your lawful neutral or good. (That's what I think anyway) I wonder what mine would be?
-
^I'd say Neutral Good, meself.
Usually when I take those types of tests, I come out as Neutral Good, so Lawful Good isn't too far off. Sometimes I can be Chaotic Good or even True Neutral... just depends on my mood.
-
I'd say, to be more specific, I'm between Chaotic Neutral and Good. I do have some people I'd die or kill for (my family, which is less based on genes and more closeness, so there's genetic family that doesn't count and non-genetic people that do), but other than me and them, there's nobody else who matters to me, but I think all people should be free to exist how they want so long as they don't hurt others.
-
If anyone is Chaotic Neutral, it's Lithp.
Someone assign an alignment to me. :)
-
You seem quite pleasant. Neutral Good.
-
SpaceProg is a Lawful Goodie-two-shoes.
-
Blast from the past: Cestle was Lawful Evil.
-
I think we can all agree that the late great Sandman was Lawful Good.
-
*Sighs* Yeah. He was a good 'un.
-
Blast from the past: Cestle was Lawful Evil.
DogmasDemise was Lawful Evil and lighthorseman was Chaotic Evil.
Somebody sort me :D
-
for you wykked, i'd go with lawful neutral, with strong good tendencies, ie you try and stay impartial because you want to be nice to everyone and give them a chance, but are not afraid to lay the smackdown on someone who goes against the rules.
at least that's how i call it. anyone else different? what about me? hope a 100-odd posts is enough :)
-
Shouldn't we use the newest version of the alignment system? Lawful good -> Good -> Unaligned -> Evil -> Chaotic evil.

there's not much leeway in there, is there? even though i started the game, i'd almost be in favor of using the extended chart, the one who takes into account tendencies and bias. gygax came up with it when 3.5 was being tested, but it's a bit more complicated. the standard 3x3 grid is not too complicated, but not too simplistic, methinks :)
-
Distind was Lawful Evil. Shut down the FSTDT Forums for not agreeing with him and was a transphobe, but he didn't just eliminate members he didn't like left and right before giving up adminship, and did keep the place from going completely insane.
-
^ You're Chaotic Good to Lawful Neutral.
-
What would you say I am?
-
Can't really say for sure, but you seem Neutral to Chaotic good. Though I think everyone verges into the Neutral area at times.
One thing that bothered me about those alignment dealies, really. A person is a pretty dynamic being with regards to a particular worldview and outlook, as well as their moral compass.

Yes, you could be neutral on some things and chaotic on others.
-
How about me? :)
-
I would say your natural good judging by what I've seen you say, now can someone do me...please?
-
You named yourself after a woman who became the mother of all succubi, so you're naturally Chaotic Evil.
;) I keed, I keed. From what I've seen, you strike me as Neutral Good. Not to hung up on law and order, but not an advocate of anarchy except in very specific circumstances, and still supporting the common good.
My turn!

Bow chicka bow wow! And, I agree with Neutral Good.

Neutral good. Pretty much the same as what you said for her.
-
lighthorseman was Chaotic Evil.
LHM was more chaotic neutral.
-

Yeah, same for me. I rarely post any opinions of any real substance because by the time I get round to repsonding with my thoughts on an important or deep topic someone else has usually gotten in before and made pretty much the same points I was going to make - and usually much better than I would have. So then there's not much point in my replying to the thread as my post will just be redundant and won't add anyhting to the discussion. So it'd be interesting to see if anyone can come up with an alignment for me. I'd probably have to look up what it meant anyway.
-
Pretty much the alignments are what they say on the tin.
Chaotic Evil, Neutral Evil, Lawful Evil, Neutral, Lawful Good, Neutral Good, Chaotic Good.
I've been all of these in some form or fashion over the years.
-
I'm afraid I've been too much of a lurker to have a defined alignment here.
-
Blast from a past I wasn't here for: Pastor Dave was chaotic evil (and a douchebag). However, he would probably see himself as chaotic good because he was being a douchebag for Jesus.
What's mine?
-
Chaotic good, I'd say.
-

Chaotic Evil, Neutral Evil, Lawful Evil, Neutral, Lawful Good, Neutral Good, Chaotic Good.
Yeah but examples of well known characters that fall into those categories would be useful, as some of them to be sound almost like oxy morons to me, like "Nuetral Evil". How can someone be neutral but evil? Is it like not helping your allies when they go to war for no other reason than spite coz you don't actually like your ally that much or something lol?
Some too would just be a matter of perspective would they not? Many characters would be considered some form of evil by most people, but to the character themselves they might believe what they are doing is the right thing or is for the greater good, so in their minds their good not evil and there's probably others who would agree with them. I've never played D&D (although I'd quite like too, listening to some of the tales on Counter Monkey made it sound like it could be a lot of fun with the right people) but allignments seem a bit too complicated and fluid to pin down anyone as being in any particular category. It must make the game a little awkward at times? I bet it causes a lot of arguments too.
-
Lawful evil is a bad guy with a set of morals. They have rules and regulations, a code that they live by. They tend to keep civilian casualties to a minimum. Megamind from the first half of the movie would be an extreme example. Magneto from X-men fame would be another.
Chaotic evil tends to be evil for the luls. The Joker is a great example.
Neutral evil tends to fall to henchmen. What they're doing is bad but they don't feel one way or the other about it. It's a job, nothing more.
-
Wikipedia's article on alignment (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alignment_%28Dungeons_%26_Dragons%29) actually has detailed descriptions and examples of well-known characters for each.
But the rough idea is: Good is altruistic and helps others, Evil cares primarily about itself and harms others, Lawful thinks respect for established rules is important, Chaotic thinks rules just get in the way. You can be neutral with respect to good and evil, or neutral with respect to law and chaos (or both, typically called Neutral or True Neutral because 'Neutral Neutral' sounds silly).
Of course there's room for ambiguity; most people consider themselves Good regardless, and Law vs Chaos varies with respect to which code you're following.
