I love reading slash fiction, so it just annoys me if i'm enjoying a story and a character says something like:

"It's was nothing like being with a woman, all his previous girlfriends just wanted to talk about shoes and clothes all day."

I know its just crappy fanfiction, but as a woman, I can't help but be a little bit insulted by stuff like that.

Anyway, I wonder if there is a femslash equivalent.

The girl I'm taking to the premier tomorrow? Her boyfriend tried to bully her into refusing, because he's jealous of me and thinks that we're "too familiar" because we dated for a month in 2011.

I wouldn't say that I "went off on her", because I wasn't mad at her. But I did go on a paragraphs-long rant (which is not easy to do on an iPhone) explaining exactly how ridiculous and abusive that behavior was. She's still going, but hopefully it was enough to get her to stand up for herself in the future; she mentioned how I clearly had some kind of experience with people like him, and I certainly do.

The annoying tendencies for Chinese things to be translated as "Chinese X", like if I look up the proper English word for half the things in my cupboard apparently it is full of "Chinese beetroot" and "Chinese cucumber", despite these not being remotely like beetroot or cucumber.

Even more annoyingly, in my Cantonese class yesterday we had a lesson about ordering a meal, and the translation consistently translated dim sam as "Chinese Dim Sam", presumably to distinguish it from Polish dim sam?

Whilst we're on the subject of Chinese translation conventions that annoy me, I keep seeing things like "Mount Taishan", or "The Liaohe river", which makes as much sense as talking about 'Mount Mont Blanc'. Bah humbug.

I support any ship (straight/slash/femslash) with more justification that "can't you just see it?" or the fetish thing. There's plenty of good slash but sadly it's usually buried under the absolutely creepy stuff. Heck the Romance section on ff.net in general is pretty dang creepy.

Yup. The novels are by Kathy Reichs. Brennan is very loosely based on herself.

I enjoy same-sex emotional bonds in stories, since two characters of the same gender will often have similar experiences that characters of the opposite gender may not be able to relate to, and can therefore come to a deeper emotional understanding of each other's positions.  However, I'm not a fan of homosexual sex, and since most slash fiction is there just for the sex, I tend to avoid it.

There's also the horrendous double-standard in slash fiction, in the assumption that all straight characters would be open to a homosexual relationship, but no gay characters would be open to a heterosexual relationship.  And any complaints about a slash pairing can be dismissed with "You're just anti-gay".  A lot of slashfic seems to boil down to "the sex would be hot" rather than any understanding of the individual characters involved.

"But... Hughes has a wife and daughter he's completely obsessed with.  If he's cheating on them with anyone, it destroys a big part of his character."
