Have you tried adding salt and pepper?

I don't think that adding salt and pepper will do much to change the taste of raw tomato. And the amounts needed to simply mask the flavor with salt and pepper would make me question why I'm eating a tomato in the first place.

Adding salt and pepper is what you're supposed to do with tomatoes, actually, when you eat them.  It's like adding salt to apples and watermelon - it enhances the good flavor aspect of it.

It's what I did to make the tomato slice edible for me.

That's how my family's eaten apples since before I was born.

As for watermelon, that's actually done by quite a few people, even in Japan.

Okay, but that's Japan.

.....have you fucking SEEN that place? I'm pretty sure the radiation from two atomic bombings is what's caused the weirdness.
Still can't think of a signature a year later.

Because it's not even close to being exclusive to Japan?  (Not to mention that's kinda racist...)

It's in quite a few cultures, including several American cultures.

The tarter the apple, the better it tastes with salt.  And salt brings out the sweetness in watermelon so it doesn't taste so bland.

Seriously, is the internet such a boring place that the idea of adding salt to watermelon is so shocking?

Adding a bit of salt to sugary foods is considered mandatory in culinary schools. If you don't add that sprinkle of salt, even a chocolate mousse will have an odd "flat" finish to the taste.

All confectionary has a dash of salt. Adding salt to fruit goes back to the ancient Greeks, as far as a written account of it goes, and probably it goes back to cave man days. Try it!

Wow, I figured it was a traditional thing, but I didn't realize it was so fundamental and ancient.  Cool!  I'm right about something!

Tried it once, never again... that was the first time an apple ever made me gag...

Are you sure the greeks didn't use salt to, well, preserve fruit instead of "make its flavor pop?"

You might have used too much salt if it made you gag O_o

Which type of apple did you try it with?

ADDENDUM:

Day 2 of my "Counting Calories" diet.  I managed to avoid snacking at all yesterday, and I lost almost two pounds already.

I had a controlled snack today.  13 apple-cinnamon rice mini-cakes.  120 calories of heaven on my tongue.

I'm feeling optimistic already.

Sour green apple and only a dash... I tried it, I couldn't do it again. Let's just leave it at that. I see nothing beneficial to arguing about my taste buds...

I'll have my fruit with zero salt added, thank you. That's just disgusting.
